There are times when Trump plays a strategic game with his behavior, but there are other times where there is no rhyme or reason for the way he does things. Who knows.
Trump was trying to pin Biden down on his stance on far left policies and make Biden commit yes or no to them. He was able to do that.

The democrats are holding on to a very loose alliance between the establishment dems and the AOC wing, if Trump can fracture that alliance then Biden won’t win. The far left won’t be motivated to turn out to vote.

So the goal is to pin Biden down on his stances then hammer him on it.

The amount of cope going on in this forum from Trumpers has drastically increased since last night. Even this past week the cope has been at an all time high. Been seeing the classic "I'll just go to work the next day, I don't even care about politics" line more and more.

I think Trumpers mostly just like the policy and cringe pretty hard at Trump himself. I'm convinced no one actually truly supports Trump himself, they more just like the idea of him and the policy. A few of my Trumper friends were cringing hard last night and wished he had just shut up for a minute. It must be so disappointing to see the downfall and knowing that the left is going to have a trifecta soon indefinitely.

Trump had near complete control of the conversation. For example when Joe tried to deliver his prepared speech about Beau as a set up to the alleged remarks reported in the Atlantic, Trump was able to put a lid on that by turning into a segment on Hunter. Joe wasn't able to deliver any sort of platform or vision for his presidency because Trump kept hijacking the floor - voters wanting to see what Biden offers are still left wondering. Nobody changed their minds after last night. That works in Trump's favor.

Their move is to attack Biden. Trump's entire platform is essentially hatred and chauvinism. It's not about Mr. "17 x 6 = 112". It's about the new enemy. It's always someone or something. Biden, Schumer, Pelosi, Bernie, AOC, Ilhan Omar, Muslims, scientists, Atheists, foreigners, Jews, liberals, lgbt, etc. It's never about how we can best unite the nation and the world and promote peace and prosperity for all. It's about hating some group of people and blaming them for everything bad that happened. Biden gave a clear message that he aims to promote unity and peace, and Trump made it clear he stands for division. He wants victory for his group over all others. The list of people he and his supporters hate grows daily. And he does not speak for or represent his targets. The lesson we have learned consistently in history is that alienating large portions of your society will not work. His supporters will eventually get hate fatigue. It's hard to hate all liberals and label them satanic p3dos when your own family members are liberals. It's hard to hate foreigners when you start realizing almost every business you buy from is hiring and working with them. It's hard to be intolerant of other religions when you are forced to realize that there are plenty of people from every major religion, including Islam, who devote their lives to serving this country and helping our society thrive. It's hard to hate lgbt when you finally meet people who are lgbt and realize they are not so bad. Eventually, people are forced to confront the realities of chauvinism/racism/etc.

All Trump's hatred does is move us backwards and weaken us as a nation.

We are neck high in strong Trump cope boys.

There is serious delusion afoot. We gotta keep stressing critical thinking development for these cavecels. I've found a great logic course that should teach them how to decipher fact from fiction.

For someone who didn't watch the debate, that's amazingly spot on. I'd rep you for it but apparently I need to spread reps around some.

Trump had an amazing opportunity. On the economy, he could have explained that his tax code led to increased hiring and investment which decreased unemployment, increased GDP, and strengthened the economy. He could have said that will be important in recovering from the current pandemic. He could have pointed out that his stance on trade with China helped protect intellectual property. He could have called out the Democratic hypocrisy on Covid with facts, and at least made that part of the debate neutral instead of a total loss. Biden had nothing to counter substance with except personality, and Trump let him make that the focus. Biden was pure fluff, " I saved the economy and the auto industry"?? That's about as accurate as Gore saying he invented the internet. (Missed opportunity - Trump.)

I already voted, but I was disappointed that Trump couldn't reign himself for a few hours to crush someone the way Chris Christie crushed Rubio. That should have been easy, but he didn't so the debate wasn't about policy. If anything, Trump's conduct and hyperbole may have turned off a few people who voted for him last time. People, aka voters, who feel a president has to be a role model and a decent person. They probably won't vote for Biden, but they may not bother to vote for Trump either, and that's bad for him. (Screw up - Trump.)

I also think Biden may have reassured a few liberals he isn't completely senile and demented. It's a low bar, but given the political climate, it could be enough to convince them to make the small effort it takes to vote. That's his goal because he's a very boring candidate. (Opportunity capitalized on- Biden.)

Lousy debate. Lisa Simpson would have beat them both easily.

trump backs his supporters on this board into a corner so they always have to come out swinging with insults

the problem with trump is that he acts as if his base could leave him at any given time when thats truly not the case.
gotta get more people in the tent to give his base more weight. but whatever

The only thing the debates did was ensure that less people will vote. Also, trump's base is stronger than ever. We all saw it for what it was- Wallace completely biased. Biden lied non-stop and not held accountable. also, biden had to deny supporting the green new deal (even though kamala supports it and it even says so on biden's website), so when he denied it, his base was divided. He refused to denouce antifa and therefor owns the riots now (lost the suburbs) and he wouldn't even answer who what he planned on doing with the courts if he got elected. if you think the debate instilled confidence in biden from anyone but the severe never trumper's you're an idiot and not paying attention.

Sounds like you think Biden is going to win and not follow through on any far left policies. If that plays out and he disappoints a large portion of his supporters by being fiscally moderate, I wouldn't see that as a bad outcome.

If Biden wins and the democrats also flip the senate, I think it could be a disaster for the US economy. A democratic legislative branch sweep with a matching democratic president is my worst case scenario for this particular election, so all it takes for me to be happy on November fourth is for the Republicans to maintain a majority in the senate.

Nah just more annoying shills.

You might notice a shift, however, in that we are sane individuals and are willing to admit when our candidate doesn't perform to expectations. Whereas a lunatic Lefty will never find fault in their candidate regardless of how useless and demented they are.

I think Trump lost voters if anything from the debate, but he was his usual self which is what his supporters love about him. But 15 minutes in though I was like damn, these are the two best people we have to run the country? They both just seem old and out of touch with reality.
