I didn't suggest "commandeering the news". I suggested putting some national security restrictions into place and putting up a firewall between advertising and social media.

"The news" (aka mainstream media) at least implies that the person communicating a story is a paid professional with some kind of expertise or education and at least the tiniest bit of responsibility to not spread dangerous disinformation, biased though they may be.

"Social media" means anyone with internet access can write whatever the hell they want short of things like defamation.

My proposal was that we at least make a serious effort to prevent foreign nations and terrorist organizations from shaping the content to suit their own purposes, cut out professional marketers/ads, and keep the free speech thanks.

TOS or rules around language/offensive content are fine, but the idea that just saying something completely true (getting some boobs, hormone treatments, etc. doesn't make you female) can get you "banned for life" is insane. It isn't false (genetic male), isn't hateful, isn't targeted at anyone, doesn't mean that someone who chooses to identify themselves by a different gender deserves to be treated badly- but it isn't "politically correct" which has come to mostly look like some kind of competition to see who can be the most easily offended or who can claim the biggest share of vicitimhood.

Something changed right around 2012. There was a tremendous explosion of communist propaganda around that time period which is probably why we are having a marxist/communist revolution right now. Youtube, Netflix, Reddit and other major platforms are huge indoctrination platforms.

It seems like you’re suggesting two different ideas. One is blocking some speech, which like if it’s ISIS or North Korea or some such I think that’s fairly non-controversial.

However ... requiring the platform to host speech they don’t like is far far more difficult. Bb.com for example is highly censored and I think they like it that way.

And because it’s America and we take the first amendment very seriously - good luck. It’s almost impossible to win.
