Far more likely to hit that shot with a rifle though

Pretty sure OP said in his other thread that it died 100 yards from where he shot it

I don't think it would've lived for that long if he hit it in the same spot with a high powered rifle either

It definitely helps to have someone mentor you but with Youtube nowadays, you can probably get into it yourself.

Rifle season here is 2 weeks, versus like 4 months of archery. Also nice to not have to wear hearing protection, get out in the early season when it's still pretty warm and green (rifle season is NOV / DEC - usually pretty cold by then).

I do both. I've shot a lot of deer, but only ever killed one with centerfire rifle. Probably approaching triple digits with archery. Some of it has to do with the tags though...usually I'm tagged out by rifle season.

this badboy was shot with a 300 win mag, it shredded one of his ventricals (The part of the heart which pumps the blood), he was 60 or so yards from where he was shot. Looking on a couple forums just now it seems like a deer running up too 100 yards after being shot with a rifle is pretty common

No we have food grade stainless steel racks. Wrap the quarters, straps etc in Saran Wrap and just lay on the racks single layers. We have hung entire deer in there to cool a bit when temps are higher, but still skin it, quarter it, wrap it pretty quick.

I bought a couple of those Coleman 200cc minibikes at Cabelas a few years ago. They are small and light but with an aftermarket torque converter they pull deer on a sled outa anywhere. Use the otter sleds for ice fishing to drag them. Can drive between rows of corn which is nice too.

They made crossbows legal here 2 years ago. I have 3 Excalibur matrix 380s with HHA optimizer scope mounts. Insanely accurate. Pretty much a short range single shot rifle.

That's cool. Yeah, having a mentor to kind of guide you in the beginning with these types of skills is crucial. You can definitely learn a lot on yt but I don't think that will ever replace in-person guidance. Anyway, any skill that makes you more self-sufficient is pretty impressive.
