That's not what the gum is. Nicotine in tobacco products contains other chemicals that when combined with nicotine produced an addictive reaction. Nicotine alone did not. There's a cocktail in tobacco, some of these chemicals act as low grade MAOIs which probably contributes to the "addiction."
