Met lots of Slovenians backpacking in Italy. They seemed like nice and cultured people.
They also all spoke multiple languages semi-fluently. Most could speak German, Italian, English and Latin.

Our Rich Journey retired young, started youtubing, then retired to Portugal. Its a couple/family. Pricing seems good. From what they say country seems great to retire in.

srs i mean slovenia is beautiful, kind of on the rise and a good country imo but that property is legit the middle of nowhere and that's not a hand-maintainable farm property so you better have tractors and tools already in the EU

I lost my job early last year and money was running out. As a UK brah I looked at Bulgaria to live to keep my head above water cash-wise since first round interviews are all online anyway, could fly in if it went further. Found I could basically live like a king in the capital on 20% of my UK outgoings.

My parents have a 5 bedroom house in a rural place in BG. Total PITA, pump for the water keeps fuking up, water heater breaking due to minerals from the water, power cuts. This is with spending loads of money on central heating etc. Place needs to be crawling with security to not be gutted by gypsies/Romanians. Had to bribe the local gov't as it ended up having no planning permission. Be careful buying these places boyos.

I typically dont care about the structure as I have knowledge in building homes. Now building homes in Slovenia can be a completely different ball of wax. I am more interested in the property for the land and it definitely wouldnt be my primary home.

Doubt thats gonna be a thing. It´s not some place where people literally starve to death wtf. It´s more like I dunno the poorer white regions in the USA like appalachia mountains or whatever. Slovenia is not a third world country, and I would guess they have electicity and water. The proerty also had a well.

As a Bulgarian myself, living in the UK, I can explain the above posts with the fact that some ex-communist are better than others right now. Poland, Czech Republic and Slovenia had a much better recovery. It has to do with the fact that they banned all commie associates from being in Gov in the new democratic phase of their histories.

zknarc, what about claiming benefits in the UK when you lost it?


For the HDI rating, it has a lot to do with the fact that for smaller countries a very high rating is more easily obtained. Look at the top 20 countries and most of them have relatively small populations. Slovenia is literally 2m people.

Slovenia is pretty cool, but you also have Austria, Hungary, Czechia in the region. 2k/month after taxes gets you absolute baller status even in the capitols. Only thing one has to consider is the language barrier, but you can easily manage most things with English only as the cities are full of students/expats/service industry.

You mean almost as alarming as the number of Non US bro's who think America is a war torn country? lol. People tend to not know sh*t about countries on the other side of the world they've never been to.

I will say this for America and the western countries you mentioned, at least you don't get ripped off and swindled at every chance by people and businesses. You go to a store or use a service and the price is the price for everyone. Unlike certain countries where the price varies depending on if they know you're a local or not.
