For science **** usually they are top tier in their fields - the head of quants in a team I used to work in a financial institution in London got his degree way back during the Soviet Union for free.

However, guy did 2 PhD in Math and Physics in actually super competitive Moscow university programmes that recruited for research and development for singals interception for dat dere Cold War with the muricans.

This guy is incredibly smart, absolutely mogs everyone. His dream was originally to come to the USA to do work in NASA but it is what it is.
Oh I know, the stories are mindblowing. They'll wistfully reminisce about summer lake homes and guaranteed jobs and then tell me about why they can only stomach well done meat and that entire year in a hospital battling Hepatitis. God bless the USA and food safety.

Define significant.

Also, your argument assumes I think ALL of academia is a scam. There are, of course, areas of academia which are quite beneficial for society. Your “significant” outliers are not lost on me bb.

Yes.

The problem is that the universities thrive off of the nonsense degrees. Offer everything, teach nothing, and drain the absurd amounts of money extended to an 18 year old with no assets lended by the Feds.

It’s a racket.

Stem professors are grossly underpaid and most other professors are overpaid.

I see this issue mimicked in the UK tbh as well, and in most Western European nations.

If you do not go to university you are considered low IQ, even though it is 100000x better morally, socially and prosperity-wise for someone who just doesnt wanna go to uni to just pick up a trade

than become a useless degree holder and a social engineer pushing liberal agenda but you are touted as smart just because it is a top university bro

i feel confident most dudes would be happier in trades. i went to an elite high school and i don't think for a second i ever thought i'd be in the trades

if i had never had the tradie job, don't think i would have known. granted, it was a higher paying one and not an extreme laborer immediately. so maybe that is a different route

i do a lot of other chit as well, but if you asked me which one i look forward to more it's the trade stuff. unless i were doing some amazing research or something but even then i think it comes with an illusion when the reality is behind the scenes you are a minion for a certain group. i do design on the side, which is enough. but i like having the balance of the artistic world coupled along with the practical world. if you asked me whether i had 1 day of work and had to choose my design or my tradie chit, i'd probably say id rather spend the 8 hours gathering the heavy ass show pieces, throwing it in a truck, bullchitting with the guys and essentially being paid to exercise/ bust my butt, so my tradie work. while the art stuff is fun it does not come with the same level of satisfaction i don't think

however, i do think this is balanced for me, with days where i do not have to do this, so maybe im a bit biased.

i feel confident a lot of dudes try chit (education fields) for women and then are indoctrinated into more feminine workplaces where they're less happy and or think it makes them more attractive when it's not even true

i wouldn't say tradie chit is really the most brain intensive BUT i laugh when people think that dudes making harmless key strokes in excel or emails is even close to the measurements and precision needed to build a house.

specialized stuff like surgeons are still needed for sure, but i think that's a highly specialized niche that prob couldn't be swayed anyways.

edit: as i've finished typing it. maybe some dudes need that illusion to keep them greater and if they actually tried the tradie life would be more degenerate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The part that's missing from this is that in the United States, we let everybody try. Most countries with free college are extremely merit-based and practice aggressive tracking.

It just so happens that your performance in school is highly correlated with your parents' socioeconomic standing, and also that black and brown students tend to be from poorer families and underperform from the start, so this is politically untenable in the United States because the outcome would automatically be branded racist when the kids pushed into the lower tracks are overwhelmingly the children of the poor.

So instead of dealing with the root cause - neglectful parenting driven by poverty mentality values - we pump money into the system to inflate prices and saddle these kids with debt so a bunch of doomed kids can try. Other countries are doing what we do in college at the high school level, while we've got 40% of the kids in CUNY paying for remedial math and writing just to prepare for college-level work because we can't cope with the idea that some kids are the weakest link, goodbye, and we shouldn't slow down the entire system just to make sure they get a diploma that in no way prepares them for a job.

Little Timmy, whether he's an urban minority or a rural white, was probably already on track to be a sheetrocker for life by age 11, and if we'd taught trig in high school, he might have found that out before he took out $50,000 in student loans trying to get through community college.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

You said “a significant part of the US with an entire section of a major city thriving with educated middle eastern immigrants in lucrative careers”.

Do you think the majority of academia in the United States is composed of middle eastern dentists? It’s not.

You are distorting my argument and misrepresenting your previous statements.

I honestly think you are bored and looking for an argument, but you are being dishonest in doing so. I never said “every single one”. Did I paint academia with a broad brush? Yes, because middle eastern dentist are outliers and my original points really don’t apply to them.

Cheers

For non Tier-1s, yes. For loan money supporting foreign employees, yes. For most non-elite unimportant subjects, yes.

Top engineers, medical doctors, attorneys, or business leaders all end up better off with higher education.

Joe Baseball who used 3 years of preparation to barely reach a local college would do better with some military fast-track curriculum to keep him out of trouble.
Paying for women to not work with their degrees seems like one of the worst parts of the world. Women's rights, in general.

My point is geared more towards your typical 3.0 undergrad student which dominates most of academia.

The real problem. Not caring about your family, people, genuine responsibility drives degenerate insanity.

Also, JFL @ foreign dentists srs. I could have applied to medical school while in HS with how low some standards look, and people think we cannot use the hoardes of people with graduate medical degrees desperate for jobs to fill this vocation you could figure out in a few shop classes?

If I didn't know better i might think this was intended to be a meta thread that convinced us all that JDs really are worthless after all
