Shatner got thrown by his horse at age 86, supposedly before a race and still won.
A lot of guys that age are hospitalized and need surgery after getting thrown by their own feet. I've heard him talk about this before and he credits it to just never giving up on his work, which is something I hear a lot from healthy old guys but might also be survivorship bias: if you have the choice to keep working, you're presumptively a healthy old guy.
Lack of purpose is unhealthy as fukk for people, though. I heard a lot of otherwise healthy middle-aged people ruminating on the belief that they're going to die soon this year, and as far as I can tell it's just because of social isolation. A friend's 21-year-old kid is alsoabsolutely convincedhe is terminally ill because a lymph node feels funny, despite the doctor confirming it's fine, and I'm pretty sure it's just his brain assuming it's time to die because he has no job, isn't in school, and isn't seeing his friends.
Don't become a lonely old guy with no hobbies and you'll be better off. Looks after your joints and chit so you have options.
