We are getting 1500 or so new cases a day, or about one in every 2500 people. I imagine once half the population is vaccinated this number should drop by 75%.

As much as the the misc wants to think this is tyrannical governments with a power grab, really its cowardly politicians simply trying to cover their ass.

My guess, spring 2022 this will all be a distant memory.

I'd guess it depends on the area. Some countries are almost back to normal life right now.

Seems spring/summer the masses will have a vaccine available, it takes 30 days or so for the shot to start becoming effective. I could see the holidays 2021 being somewhat normal, 2022 we'll have almost forgotten about covid.

Basic math, various reports, conservative projections. The CDC said 3 weeks ago 8x as many infections have happened as have been confirmed. Even that's underestimating, as the tests they use (antibody assays) only pick up 77-80% of infections picked up by other tests (T-cell based) that take longer and cost more. But let's stick with the extremely conservative figure of 8x as many, which means 130 million Americans have been infected now. Again, extremely conservative estimate. Now we are confirming about 200K per day, which means over a million a day are actually newly infected. Even if we again go with a conservative ratio, that means 8-9 million infections a week right now, which will keep into January. Spikes a week or so after major holidays.

Let's put it this way: deaths are about to drop again before Christmas.This is predictable.We have a temporary spike from Thanksgiving. They'll drop then pick back up again a few days after New Year's. Spike again for about 15-20 days, for the last time, then fall back down again. Either right before or after Biden's inauguration we'll see daily deaths falling and staying down. By Valentine's Day we'll have given a second vaccination shot to the most vulnerable. The first shot offers some immunity protection, but not full. Antibody treatments and Ivermectin will save lives that would have been lost. By Valentine's Day 65-75% of the population will have acquired or vaccination immunity. I decided a month ago that's when I'm not willing to comply with masks outside of work.
