In Ontario and bc it's been crazy. Some of the most expensive real estate in the world.

Where I am (Alberta) we had a real estate boom in 2005-08 where the average home went from $160k-400k.

I bought a rental home in 2014 in a fairly hot market (oil was over $100/bbl) for $340k and recently had it appraised at $305k.

I know guys that bought in 2008 that are still underwater by at least 10%, so that makes it what, 12 years?

I'm 90% stocks (index funds)
