Constitutionally he can't. Doesn't mean he won't try though. It might be a few weeks early to call it, but deaths may already be trending down. Looks that way for now at least. Christmas may throw a monkey wrench into things, but even factoring it in means the numbers are on the downslope in 2-5 weeks, even with slower than expected vaccine rollout. Things have either plateaued or are about to. Total hospitalizations have increased over the last 10 days, since Covid has spread wide, but at the slowest rate they have since early October. By now about 40% of Americans currently are or have been infected. While that's not herd immunity, it's enough to slow spread.

Same, so no actual scientific reason. Like it literally seems by far the most logical thing to do unless I’m missing something? Surely they’re not trashing the economy just to avoid old people getting upset by being the only ones told to stay inside?

The bullchit argument is younger people will spread it amongst themselves then give it to their parents/grandparents.

Have flown out of the UK a couple of times recently and it's not like there was anybody at the actual airport checking to see where you were coming from. Also don't think there is any kind of form you have to fill in prior to leaving the UK (there is for coming into the UK). So while they say that people from certain Tiers can't travel (unless an exemption applies) they seem to be doing fukk all to enforce that and actually require you to prove that you meet one of the exemptions.

Flights getting cancelled would be my main concern.

He does whatever he says he wants to avoid doing, he expects us to believe he doesn't want to do any of this but he must for our own sake. He said he wanted to avoid another national lockdown but I guess we weren't all good boys and girls over Christmas and New Year so we must be punished.

Boris addressing the nation 8pm...

Sturgeon has just placed Scotland into full lockdown, it is now against the law to leave the house unless going for exercise or essential journeys.

Why in the world do they keep opening and closing the country every month if lockdowns should work the first time?

It's ****ing mental how nonchalant people are about being locked down and giving up their freedoms. I'm not a COVID denier lunatic, and I was fine about the first lockdown and even the second one (if it did anything, which is didn't), but this is ridiculous now and everyone seems to just be cool with it.

The more you do something the more the population views it as normal and just status quo.

Aren't schools open under tier 4? I actually don't know I'm not really paying attention to what the rules are.

Also why are Premier League games still going on, they cancelled them in March. Hint its not about the virus.

My concern with the initial lockdown was always the precedent it sets. They'll lock us down for whatever reason they see fit in the future and the willing public will bend over and take it.

Yeh that is true, although rules seem to fluctuate per tier so I’ve no idea.

Apparently the Premier League have been given special dispensation.

So heartbreaking what's happening to our school aged kids.

Glad my older kid is in school - has to wear a mask but it's still better than the virtual schooling.

It's like the "high-value" business travellers exempt from quarantine, if this was so serious there would be no exceptions. At this point it's all about control, not of the virus, just lmao if you ever thought that could be controlled, but of the peasants.
