Is an extract of vanilla the new miracle cure for hair loss?

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7327143/

To investigate whether vanillic acid affects the downregulation of β-catenin by dihydrotestosterone (DHT), implicated in the development of androgenetic alopecia, DPCs were stimulated with DHT in the presence and absence of vanillic acid for 24 h. Western blotting and confocal microscopy analyses showed that thedecreased level of β-catenin after the incubation with DHT was reversed by vanillic acid. These results suggest that vanillic acid could stimulate anagen and alleviate hair loss by activating the PI3K/Akt and Wnt/β-catenin pathways in DPCs.

...

Vanillic acid is a phenolic acid found in some forms of vanilla and many other plant extracts. It is a flavoring and scent agent that produces a pleasant, creamy odor. It is the intermediate product in the two-step bioconversion of ferulic acid to vanillin. Vanillic acid, which is a chlorogenic acid, is an oxidized form of vanillin.

Vanillic acid is a metabolic byproduct of caffeic acid and is often found in the urine of humans who have consumed coffee, chocolate, tea, and vanilla-flavored confectionary.

I’ve heard this too. A few years ago I used minoxidil 5% foam for exactly 365 days. Never once missed a dose. I got bags under my eyes and it took a month or two to go away after I quit. My hair grew back a little thicker and I saw some new growth on my crown.

The only reason why I started up again was because it’s gonna help my new hairs from my hair transplant grow in nicely. I’ll probably stop after a year and then just rely on my Low Level Laser Light cap and 3-4 PRP sessions a year. Until I need another transplant.

There are no side effects with a transplant, PRP, or LLLT caps. But there are with finasteride and possibly minoxidil.
