Funny you say that because tennis is like the most publicly accessible sport ever. Only need 2 people to play, public courts everywhere, racket is hella cheap

Skiing/Snowboarding can be fun but the average person is not going to pay $200 a day to fall on their ass srs.

Many of those resorts are ridiculous with their prices.

I like tennis.

You can get a seasons pass with unlimited access to whistler and blackcomb for 1110.00 USD

If you went 12 x it’s only 90 bucks per session

If I lived by a mountain I’d totally get a pass and spend every weekend at the mountain

If you lived in Vancouver and couldn’t make the drive to whistler you could get a seasons pass for 164 usd at grouse mountain - brb 12 times a year is only 13 bucks per session

What I'm trying to convey is that the sport is inaccessible for most people.

I've only skied twice mind you. First time I did it I borrowed my friends gear. I did it last month with my GF and I was furious how much it costed LMAO.

Ski and tennis crew. Tennis in the early morning in the summer is probably the GOAT summer activity short of being in a tropical location

Never been proper golfing-went to the driving range once without gloves and got the gnarliest blisters of all time. kind of scarred me tbh

Yeah maybe it doesn’t make sense for a lot of people but if you wanted to pursue it long term and a good resort was close it’s totally economical

I mean for me to play men’s league hockey is $600 for a 6 month season with a 1 hr game a week and I only actually play 20 mins and the other 40 is sitting on the bench

Would much rather get a seasons pass to snowboard and have unlimited access to the mountain

yeah the cost of the gear for most of these sports, plus paying for access to the very specific location they take place definitely creates a sense of elitism among the people who do it regularly. one of the turnoffs tbh but the skiing and tennis are so fun when you're actually half decent at them

How is the community surrounding those activities? Are the people actually smug and materialistic?

I never went skiing or snowboarding, but would like to get into it eventually.

Tennis is fun and I just play with a friend every now and then, don't plan on getting investing more time than this.

Rich people are nice man IMO

All the elitist skiers I know that are members at private clubs or do a ton of whistler, Banff, tremblant trips are just rich people who like to ski, snowboard and hit up apres

I think saying rich people are snobby or act elitist is such a stereotype ... I actually find rich people to be more pleasant to be around than those of lesser means tbh

I mean, skiing is pretty much a solo sport though obviously you can do it with friends. You don't interact with anyone you don't want to interact with mostly. Some guys at rental places and whatnot will try to take the piss out of you on occasion especially if you don't the specifics of everything you're doing/what you want, though ski people tend to be better than mountain bikers in my experience. I've had random lift workers make nonsensical comments trying to MOG me as well. I just roll my eyes because they're fkin random ski bum resort workers trying to act elitist.

Otherwise everyone is just minding their own business. Randoms you're sharing a ski lift with are generally pleasant but almost never talk.

Skiing is pretty sweet (check username) I also used to race competitively.

Where I live now i rarely go as lake tahoe is the closest place to drive and it is not worth it to me.

brb $200 lift ticket
brb traffic all the way up and down
brb they shut down roads
brb trails fllled with people from countries who have never seen snow before

Not worth it. Then $20 for the equivalent of a McDonald's cheeseburger

If I go skiing I would rather get on a plane and go to WY, CO, etc.

I have gotten into biking the last few years, one of the GOAT sports. Going 45 mph hour down a road is where it's at. Also if you like wrenching there is always something to replace, improve, etc....

Probably varies significantly between clubs for skiing and tennis--can't speak to golf i've literally only been to driving range by the water. Some private clubs here cost 25k a year vs some that are like a few hundred (talking about tennis)

In general the people are on average more uppity and judgemental than you would find in other, more accessible sports. Hard to explain but if you go you'll def pick up on it. its like when you go to a baller level grocery store, the people just sort pf act different vs a budget grocery store. That's not to say that there arent some pleasant and friendly ppl there too, just that there's a higher concentration of snobs if you know what i mean

Yes it’s accessible, doesn’t mean people do it. Over here, it definitely attracts a better class of people than golf.
