I'm sure some romans were provided opiates for medical care, but for 99% of the population, if you needed any kind of surgery you'd have zero anesthesia.
I wonder if people got sick/food poisoning as much back then. People's stomach acid levels were much much stronger, and there was a lot of "healthy" bacteria in their mouths that we've removed via normal dental care.

Yeah man, imagine having to shít with 15 others sat around you, breathing in the stench of their faeces whilst you sit there with stage fright, trying to push out a few nuggets. Then wiping your arse with a used rag that has the deposits of 10 others before you from that same morning.
Then you go to work for 14 hours a day with no breaks, sweating your balls off and breaking your back so you can afford to buy a loaf of bread for your pathetically malnourished family.
For entertainment, you can go to an ale house, or if you're really lucky, see a puppet show.
Dying of infection, no aid for poor sight, teeth falling out.
Must've been a right laugh.

You literally had Patrician / Noble familes that HELD POWER for literal centuries.
BRB DemocracyCels think Rome was a "democracy" when it was more accurately a 'Noble Republic' and the senate and noble families didn't really change during the transition to the Empire either.

I heard that in most gladiator games they didn't actually die, it makes no sense to kill off your slaves since you're just losing money and killing an asset that you can no longer make money off, although on occasion they did actually die but I don't think it was very often. I wonder if like for big events in the colosseum they advertised at least 3 deaths etc to get more people to pay and attend. It's like today you see posters advertising UFC events and boxing matches but they'd put that there would be deaths guaranteed.
