Nah, nothing worth torrenting these days honestly. It’s gotten to the point where if there is a movie or video game worth the money then I’ll happily pay for it since it’s so few and far between.

This guy gets it.

I'm interviewing for a federal gov job that will involve a polygraph, and the recruiting package specifically said to not illegally download movies (in addition to stuff like doing drugs, etc) lmao. So I haven't torrented any in awhile, but I used to a lot. Had to stock up on movies before deployment too, so I basically had no choice but to torrent.

I use an apple tv so I would just make sure the movies I was downloading were mp4s and I was mostly good to go. Subtitles can be a problem though--if the movie has any then you have to download the file from subscene (make sure it's "foreign parts only" or similar) and then stream it to the VLC app rather than just opening up the Computers app on the Apple TV. Honestly before the polygraph thing even became an issue it was already getting to the point where usually I would just pay the $3.99 to rent a movie rather than get up, get the laptop, find the right file/subs to download, etc.

I used Transmission to download the torrents and got them from the Pirate Bay (if the website is down you can just type .rocks instead of .org to get to the proxy site). No idea how all these miscers are saying they ended up with viruses and malware--literally the entire point of torrents is that you're downloading bits and pieces of the file from all different people (rather than one file from one person) so anything malicious just wouldn't get seeded by users.

Edit: Also use PIA for VPN

Also it doesn't make sense to me why people just horde movies instead of getting what looks interesting to them. That way they can buy stuff they like, instead of pirating or buying everything.

Being a wagecel isn't a good excuse to pirate.
I’ll buy albums because I don’t mind paying for one Metallica album every 5 years. But when there’s like 50-100 movies out a year and they’re a minimum of like £15 a pop you’re mad, I ain’t paying that!

AI is pretty efficient.
They usually get students & give them easy jobs to test various scripts by going after some poor bastards.
They are not high priority which is why they test stuff on them.

Started thinking about it again recently. Only streaming app I have is netflix and it gets worse each week I feel like. Bunch of anime and Polish movies on there now for some reason.

Used to love browsing through torrents and downloading stuff. Had so much music and movies and shows.

Got to do some research into it now though because I'm sure the sites and software I used have been replaced by now.

There's a couple of issues I see here really:

1. Is the majority paying for entertainment?
2. How much does pirating actually hurt the creators? And, how much should they earn?

If you like to watch a lot of movies. That's fine. It would make perfect sense to use pirating. However, my problem lies with people who don't watch many movies, but decides to pirate when they do. If you really like what you see, pay up to watch it. Don't be a little bitch. And - voting with the dollar is a much better way to gauge quality, rather than a like button.

Second, who are we kidding - these content creators are filthy rich as it is. So what's a few millions here and there - that is the assumption. At the end of the day, pirating is "dirty" and its breaking the law. I've personally come to respect law's in general and breaking it is a blatant disregard and disrespect to the many people who came up with the law to protect both consumers and content curators.

In general, try not to pirate if you are a casual entertainment consumer. But if you do pirate - piratemaxxx, bb.

You guys worrying about viruses in 2021 are funny. lol

Anyway. I can totally understand why people torrent again. When Netflix first came out, EVERY movie was available. People legit sold or gave away their DVD collections. Obviously those days are long gone and 95% of the movies you've heard of aren't streaming anywhere as part of a subscription anymore.

The other thing is how much obscure stuff is out there you might want to save. I have all the episodes of the Whitney Cummings talk shows, the Punkin Chunkin discovery special, a bunch of other random crap that literally does not exist anymore. Not to buy, rent, or stream.
