Sucks. I’m on the very edge of my city and coyotes are constantly taking out neighbourhood “outdoor” cats

Two types. A padded foothold that allows you to release it unharmed if needed, or a kill snare with a lock. If no dogs, snares are best. If trapping around dogs, foothold because you can just release the dog.

Is it more fun to just blast a wolf in the head with a shotty versus trapping it?

We have coyotes snag dogs and cats all the time in my hood.

My security cameras have caught coyotes, a bobcat and a skunk in the last few months walking through the yard.

There was a mountain lion spotted on someone's security camera about a mile away. Fuk 120 pound angry cats.

Did not need to look to see that this was a Hutrapper thread, lol.

I'm NOT a fan of little yippy dogs, but that's a bummer for the owner.

We have a few head of cattle and there are coyotes in the area, I keep thinking my dad may get a donkey or something for the herd, those heifers all want to drop their calves at the same time.

Yeah, supposedly they can be sob's haha. I read that one can guard up to 300 head of cattle. Plus they just eat what the cows eat, pretty neat.

I remember now that a donkey 30 miles or so south of me beat the fuk out of an all black coyote and killed it. A friend tried to skin it and it was black and blue. Like all fukked up.

Notable because there isn't much farming here and even fewer donkeys.

What they are called is always up for debate here. A friend traps a ton of coyotes in southern ontario, and claims that the average size he gets is around 28 lbs.

I have never caught one under 40, and 60 is much more common. Also caught a few 85-90 lbs.

IMO they are mutts, as true wolves are often in that 85 lb range, with some examples over the years of over 100 lb animals.

Some think the correct term is "eastern coyote".

So coles is, maybe. lol.

Was killed by a wolfy coyote looking thing that is bigger than the average true coyote.

Must have been a black wolf.

I actually like knowing there is chit out there that could fuk you up. makes it exciting. I draw the line at cougars tho...I wander around in the bush in the dark too much for that.

The biggest carnivore there is what, a badger? But not a ferocious honey badger that bathes in the blood of its enemies, one of those polite looking European badgers.
