I like shooting, birdwatching, and sailing. I also generally enjoy the outdoors, and have gotten into hunting.

Generally speaking, people will be interested if you tell them that you did a rifle competition and were shooting 900 yds, or show them pictures you take through a spotting scope of a cool or unusual bird (or a bird doing something stupid). They don't want to hear about your split times shooting your handgun or about the vagaries of drawing a tag to hunt a big game animal in the Western US.

Being interested in your hobby is not going to turn anyone off. Giving someone a dissertation on your hobby when they just want to find out if you're normal enough to let you put your tongue in their mouth will.

I think thats cope, low aspirations to be good at your hobby so why try hard kind of thing

I can see the appeal of how cool it looks to be great at something without trying, but its not going to happen. An example of this i see is at my rugby club, good players are too relaxed / cant be fukked to go to training, get unfit, weak, shadow of their former selves then try to go 101% on game day. The giga chads can get away with it, but normies cant

I don't personally know anyone who cares enough to pretend and I have a rack at home so I don't know how common it is on a regular basis. I do see a lot of it when I creepmaxx on ig and it's just a typical social media thing, not only relating to the gym. I'm all for trying new things and posting about it online, but for a lot of people it's clear the photos took great priority over the actual activity.

It’s all in how you talk about it.

Also, I play hockey, rec league. No contact, beer league **** and even though I think it’s lame and I don’t have a single competitive bone in my body when it comes to playing anymore, I just play for individual success, women eat that **** up and want to come watch and ****. To the point where I have to tell them it’s not a great time if you actually watch pro hockey lol. I get bored on the bench.

Also, I like to go for walks in national parks. Women have been more interested in why I enjoy the activity than the actual activity. I think that’s the sweet spot for getting a girls interest in your hobbies. Have a passionate, self fulfilling reason as to why, but don’t talk about it like you’re overly obsessive where her being in your life would inconvenience you.

Aside from picking up girls or not, it's great when someone loves something and can talk about it articulately. Just don't be a monomaniacal twat. A well rounded person can talk about anything or at least listen and ask intelligent questions, but if you have like one topic, you're boring.

Also dabblers only have surface level knowledge to impart so unless someone really gets into something, they are an expert on nothing. Kind of lame if you don't know at least one subject inside and out better than 100 random other people.

Honestly couldn't care less but you might have a point. For example people have seen pictures of my big bass and think "ZOMG! That looks so fun! I'd love to go fishing some time!" But if they knew what's actually involved in trying to get those pictures they'd lose interest real quick.
