The biggest issue is that the government has disincentivized work by making unemployment compensation so high. Collecting government checks should never be more than doing actual work and getting a paycheck.
It should be capped at 50% of your previous wages to make people get back to work. It's the governments fault for giving people so much money for nothing.

My point is more addressed to hard workers who's only options are garbage tier jobs or unemployment. I am aware that of those who collect the latter, hard workers are a minority, but I think my point is valid.

Sadly the insane UI payments being given out has prevented that.

We can talk about the hypothetical world where welfare doesn't exist.
But to entertain your thoughts. Welfare is not just about romanticism. It's almost a form of insurance. We contribute because we know that it would help us just in case we or people we know get into a situation where welfare is needed.

Choosing to be on welfare over working a job that pays around the same is a rational decision devoid of romanticism.
Also lol at believing that a significant portion of taxes goes to welfare. You know damn well that a big chunk goes to the military and Social security for boomers.
I'd rather be upset at government officials getting hundreds of thousands of bonuses for almost doing nothing than a regular guy just getting 12k or so.
I think this stems from jealousy. We're upset that these welfare people beat the system that continuously cucks us.
Lol at believing at welfare recipients are leeches when you see how much congressmen and bureaucrats get paid for doing almost nothing

I worked almost non-stop from 18 until recently (33) and I got laid off due to lack of work at my previous employer. I'm just going to chill for awhile, finish up my schooling and get my degree, maybe take some extra classes here and there, add some specialized training to my resume, etc. I plan to apply to places here and there solely so I can collect unemployment while I do this. Part of it is that I feel I need a break for a little while, and the other part is that a lot of openings out there for my field are asking for extra skills and certifications I don't have. I guess I was spoiled a bit at my last company.
nothing lazy about utilizing the system, collecting unemployment if you're doing something constructive with your time. then again I'm sure this thread wasn't about people like me in the first place, so...

First, welfare barely even exists anymore. It died back in the Clinton era. A lot of people get SNAP/food stamps, which isn't a lot. And housing assistance is very under-funded with only 1 in 4 who meet the qualification actually receiving it.
But if you do receive any substantial government benefits then you face the benefits cliff; meaning that by earning just a few dollars more in income you lose a whole lot more in benefits. So you actually LOSE money by working.
It is a screwed up system and a reason I think that some kind of Universal Income without a bunch of red tape would be more beneficial.
If employers want staff they are going to have to pay more.
That's the story, like it or not. Adjusted for inflation I'm getting paid less than I was in my early 20s doing the same type of work. And now I'm a more experienced worker.
My employer is VERY understaffed and frankly I don't know if I can stick with them. I have been there about 2 weeks and the manager has a already asked me if I want to be a department manager, and then move to assistant manager and eventually get my own store. Even the assistant managers are paid hourly with a minimum 50 hour work week.
Right now I get up, work, drag my exhausted butt home, shower, eat, and go to bed. I have no life of my own at all and I am not getting enough physical recovery.
If I can't have any life of my own, or get paid enough to afford a basic apartment rental, then what is the incentive exactly?

The point is the whole system a lot of companies put together really makes no logical sense, doesn't properly incentivize employees, doesn't really give them a solid reason for wanting to stick around. Add to that when you're an employee you really have no incentive to work harder and set yourself ahead of the pack. Most companies are unscrupulous and give out better raises and promotions to those who they are personal friends with. Company I was recently let go from, one upper manager gave a promotion to some pretty 23 year old woman because he had a boner for her. That plus she babysat his kids on the side.
At the end of the day you need to look out for yourself, as companies are even less giving of a **** about employees in recent years than they ever have. Sad! Many such cases...

Restaurants in my city are understaffed. The sad part is that people are making more in unemployment than going back to work. The restaurants simply cannot match the unemployment amount.
Can't say I'd want to go to a chitty job as a line cook. I'm told they're treated like utter chit

you don't owe your company more than 40 hours/week. I have set this bar at every full time job I've worked (except for my first job out of college because I thought I'd get fired if I didn't). Would like it to be less TBH.

I did work in retail- sales floor, cashier, supervisor, assistant manager, for a couple of different industries. When it comes to retail I've done damn near everything.
I also worked in an office corporate environment for insurance subrogation and then as an executive admin for various VPs, mostly at a securities broker-dealer.

most people want to do something with their lives that makes mom's basement on 1 USD noodle cups a bit unfulfilling in the wrong run
since low-tier wagecucking pays a bit more than unemployment, even if it is for 0 hours compared to 40 hours -> you still save more and it helps you later on if you are trying to improve from that position
this is very prominent among low-skilled white natives who explain that they are on welfare and don't change due to immigrants pressing down low-skill wages
this only shows that they are worse to the native society than importing Ahmed with 10 kids who hunts down trannies

since low-tier wagecucking pays a bit more than unemployment, even if it is for 0 hours compared to 40 hours -> you still save more and it helps you later on if you are trying to improve from that position
this is very prominent among low-skilled white natives who explain that they are on welfare and don't change due to immigrants pressing down low-skill wages
this only shows that they are worse to the native society than importing Ahmed with 10 kids who hunts down trannies
Your schtick sucks and it screams insecurity.

Cause and effect...really just drives home the point of stagnant wages over an extended period of time.

you don't owe your company more than 40 hours/week. I have set this bar at every full time job I've worked (except for my first job out of college because I thought I'd get fired if I didn't). Would like it to be less TBH.

but yeah if I was salary no fking way would I be so gung-ho about working more than 40 hours a week. Hell my last employer started moving away from wages and moving everyone to salary so they wouldn't have to pay overtime.

Should be stipulated where part of your unemployment goes directly to a direct deposit to cover your rent/mortgage, then you get a card to buy groceries with, and then another card for miscellaneous purchases.
By halting rent payments and handing people money, they just fukked over the regular working class american.

This idea may actualyl be MORE costly than the unemployment itself, but it's better I guess?

He's really trying to find work and applies to dozens of places each day, but the market is oversaturated and since everyone is hiring remote you now have to compete with people in other states that are low cost of living who will work for less. It's the one downside about remote work, there are more jobs to apply for, but now everyone from anywhere can apply to them.
but floridas max unemployment is 275 per week. i find it ridiculous some states can make thousands on it while others make chit.
but whatever

Y'all are all just temporarily embarrassed millionaires who need to do a few sets of hard work x positive thinking. LOL.

For a princely $12 an hour. I truly like the store manager and assistant and they are overwhelmed with the amount of work that needs to be done with not enough staff. They need at least 2 more people that work like I do and then a few more entry level high school types.
IMO if the company had good sense they would add another assistant manager to each store w/a regular 40 hour schedule. Probably wouldn't cost that much more than having one assistant running up a bunch of overtime and the store manager might be able to do more actual management instead of running themselves into the ground doing scut work.
