Lets not forget about people who are asymptomatic and never tested positive or people who stayed home with a mild case and didn't get tested. You assume a perfect data set.

No statistics are perfect, but the CDCs 98.2 is the best we have.

Whats the fatality rate after the first 6 months of the virus? Initially we didn't know the best way to treat it. Whats the rate excluding the time we were fumbling around arguing about drugs?

But vaccinated people have a greatly lower chance of transmitting the virus. So it’s still important to get vaccinated to protect them

Aside from the bruuuuutal track records these companies have at literally destroying lives with their products, what really creeps me out is how hard they are marketing this crap. Using celebrities in all kinds of tv and radio commercials... Let me tell you, a real pandemic doesn't need a marketing campaign.

Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels.
Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the "loser," and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round.
I have found that, in general, the brown and red M&Ms are tougher, and the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive long in the intense theater of competition that is the modern candy and snack-food world.
Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment.
When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M&M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3x5 card reading, "Please use this M&M for breeding purposes."
This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this "grant money." I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion.
There can be only one.

I honestly have no idea which “side” to believe, but I will say that the style of marketing and advertising they’re doing in favor of the vaccine rubs me the wrong way. Definitely what I’d imagine propaganda to look like.
I’m in the process of recovering from COVID though, so I should be good for the foreseeable future. (I think) It really didn’t end up being too bad for me, so I can just wait and see how things play out this year with this vaccine without worrying too much.

Some other miscer said something that resonated with me... In a true pandemic with a deadly virus that does not discriminate based on age and health, people would be doing everything humanly possible to get the vaccine. We wouldn't need a massive celebrity campaign telling us "guise look itz safe"

You know why there is not more liberal outrage over anti-vaxxers refusing to protect themselves? After four years of them telling lies to the world, they are willing to die due to a lie they are telling themselves and you know what? We are fine with that.
