You have to read their TOS carefully, and even then, you play with fire. They lay out pretty good what kind of subject matter they won't accept, but they have a vague ban on "pornographic material." Every other retailer will lay out what that means, what they consider pornographic and what they don't. But Amazon won't. If you email for clarification, they won't provide it. I am exclusive with Zon because of Kindle Unlimited, which is where my published works make most money. I've considered going wide and am planning on experimenting with it over the next six months.

My covers I make myself - they aren't great because I refuse to learn Photoshop but they are decent. It's way cheaper and they are better quality than their crappy cover maker.

I don't think I've had any one star reviews.

No idea about the timing - I do find ranking gets updated about every two hours. And no, I haven't experienced any ****ery I'm aware of. However, one thing I have a major issue with is people publishing stuff that's supposed to be banned from Amazon and gets in anyway. For example, at least ten of the top 15 books in most erotica categories have "daddy" in the title. And many of them are just people pirating other shorts from other places, compiling them and publishing them.

I have written scat stuff before, which I always find a bit weird. One guy wanted a whole story about Muslin humiliation, where the imam was forced to crap on pages of his Quran and then rub them on his body before eating them. That guy was seriously twisted with a serious hate on for Muslims.

There's a place called "the dungeon" where your book is still published but isn't able to be found unless you search the title directly. Therefore it gets no exposure and usually just fades into obscurity because nobody reads it.

Sites like Smashwords will accept pretty much anything and some of the extreme stuff has a decent following. I have about ten shorts published there that contain stuff I can't release on Amazon. It doesn't make much but it's better than nothing.

When you write fiction you learn that yes, you're correct on your grammar but readers often don't like it that way. For example, too many commas in your initial sentence and it's better for readers if they can pause in their minds and break it up. Starting sentences with conjunctions is quite normal ie and, but, etc. Things like using Greta's name twice in the same sentence is also not a good idea. Writing legal documents and writing erotica and romance have different rules.

I also wrote that this morning during a sprint and edit afterwards, I just copy and pasted that from something I'd written minutes before. Never claimed I'm a professional writer beyond the fact my stuff sells well.

That guy sounds like a dumbass. You write for the purpose. Also not starting a sentence with a conjunction is what teachers tell 5yr olds since it's easier. But there's nothing wrong even grammatically with starting a sentence with a conjunction. Strong dumbass.

Interesting stuff. I write professionally as a content writer (not very successfully or consistently, but I still sell). In that line of writing you want to avoid going beneath $0.10 a word. I imagine writing erotica is a lot more fun than content writing. And you can do it much faster. I could never come close to writing 7k words in a day.

There is very good money in ghostwriting technical stuff for people like engineers, and even ghostwriting textbooks, etc. As the poster above said, you can also make great money writing briefs and even government work doing things like policy writing.

However, if you really want to make serious money, get into publishing novels. If you can write enough of them and make a name for yourself six figures is easy and some authors I know make seven figures. Often it is also fairly residual as well once you're established. Meaning once people find you, they buy not only your book they found, but your whole back catalogue.

If you're good at productivity it isn't totally far fetched to be able to write a novel every month or at least 8-12 a year. Like I said, last year I figured out I wrote a million words, which would be ten full novels.

I'm always jealous of people who make that much per word. And yes, it is more fun and much faster. Productivity comes with practice. I can easily now write 2-3k words in an hour if I'm rolling. My record in one day is 10,000 words (I challenged myself to do it) and it was tough but doable.

Yes, I thought about maybe getting into ghost writing(writing over) some of the text work for certain companies because much of it is garbage tier. But I'm in school at the moment.

I can break it down what’s wrong line by line if you’d like, but don’t really want to do that. Just trying to help you maybe make it to the next level. Regardless of writing style or what’s appropriate for a certain genre, being inconsistent with tense and pronouns is just terrible writing.

It works for me, some people do things differently. Takes me about a week to write a full novella, maybe two if I'm focused on it.

It's a constant learning curve. For example, I look back at my first few books and cringe because I had no idea what I was doing. The poster above is right that things like my grammar, structure aren't 100% perfect but a) it doesn't matter and b) I'm learning daily how to improve it.

Commissions are easy because the person comes up with the idea and I just have to write it out - but often they will just give me "hey I want a story about fisting and it needs to be 5k words" and that's when I have to get creative. So I just come up with a scenario that might make sense and go from there. Who likes getting fisted? Women. So lesbians. Where do you find lesbians? How about a D1 soccer team? Cool. How do they hook up - well, they decide to watch game film together because the younger one is number two on the depth chart and the number one is older and hot. I literally did that two days ago.
