The cute 16 year old you think you are talking to may actually be a 46 year old man who likes to diddle little boys. It's way too easy to pretend to be someone else on the internet, so you need to take proper precautions. I even remember all the kids my age and I were even scared to tell people on the internet our first name, thinking it was enough for someone to track me down. lol

now the past 10-15 years everyone is a dumb motherfuker, believing whatever they are told. I saw one episode of that TV show Catfish, some dumb broad totally believed that she was talking to some guy who was simultaneously a male model AND worked on a TV show AND was a medical student/future neurosurgeon. They dont even set it up, someone runs the scam and they pay these people to come in to work out of some shack full time, like the come into work just like a legit call center wagecel but they run scams all day.

It will be up to the indian police to do anything if they can even locate them. For a death like this they might try harder but most of these scammers go unpunished

These scammers often do harm even to people, who do not fall for them. My grandma gets harrassed by fake Microsoft support sometimes 3x per day. She knows it's a scam and I have blocked that nuber numerous times, but they keep coming with new numbers.

I got targeted by a rental scam once. Now it was easy for me to spot the scam, when they denied me to view said apartment and wanted money beforehand, but at that time I had already wasted a lot of precious time before starting a new job in a new town I should have used to find an actual apartment thinking I already had a flat waiting for me.
