Yeah I spent a few years in London and the only time someone tried to jump me was when I was drunk AF, I could barely walk and was stumbling around and had my laptop bag with me and they probably just saw an easy target... but when I got aggressive back with the guy he just ****ed off. I use to go everywhere in central london in middle of night and never had any other issues.

I had some teenagers try to rob me in 2008 London or something. I just ignored them and moved on.

Actually samething happened to me in Latin America. Guys on motorcycle tried to rob me but I just ignored them and never made eye contact and continued walking.

No, it was 2017 till just a month and a half ago when I left the UK but I was living in nice areas. There definitely are some sketchy areas but Leicester square is not in a sketchy part of london... it's like in the center of the touristic part of London, it's a 15 minute walk from Buckingham palace... a simple 1 bedroom apartment around there would rent for like $3000 USD a month. Sure you get the same types of problems you get anywhere in an entertainment district which is just rowdy drunk(or high) people... but thats true for every city.
