He makes more doing Doordash. Except working for me is much easier, just selling to customers all day, chillin, and a lot of HBB customers.
He is only 22. No college, and previous full time job he was working much harder for $13/hour.
Also, why can't you just be on time? Is it really that much to ask? srs lol

It takes me a while to get ready and my time estimation is bad
My commute is an hour and change away already and no disrespect to my employer but Im not adding an extra 10-15mins by leaving early to beat whatever unexpected traffic when I could use that time to empty my bowels and feel good before starting the day
But your guy is 10mins commute away, he should be able to adjust - keep "coaching" him on that
He has an opportunity to grow with your business but he's late and you can't rely on someone late to open up shop
another note -https://www.rd.com/list/twists-of-fa...es-lives-9-11/
Not that I expect a tragedy to happen everyday but I always keep this in mind when it comes to "being late for work"

To me, there are a fukload of issues with being late. And its not even solely about the missed production
Say what you want, but i def. Wouldnt put up with it
I also struggle to believe this kid is as good as op says he is. He then constantly demeans him by saying hes only 14/ hr
If its that lowly a wage i dont see how hes irreplaceable
BUT if he were, and he legit brought millions of dollars or something to the business. Then cut his hours
If he has a short amount of time where hes productive why pay for the time hes not showing up?
I think if he were that good op wouldnt even question it and there wouldnt be a thread

I have a dozen employees
My best employees are often late. Honestly the way I look at it is how productive are they in an 8 hour day. If they show up 10 mins late but complete an extra 2-3 hours of work then someone else is it really that big of a deal?
Plus for minimum wage you can't expect a whole lot

Fact is I'm time blind. It isn't just a going to work thing, I'm time blind going to do things I want to do for myself on my own time.
I'm time blind at work too. Start at 8 AM...working, working, working..."Hey did you take lunch yet?".."no, been busy, why?"..."It's 4 PM, you need to take a lunch".
Not everyday, I do get hungry, but I also can be working on something and trying to complete it before I take a break. And leaving work? Same thing. I'm usually there through closing and most days I just keep working until someone tells me to stop and go home.
Just saying that tardiness doesn't ALWAYS equal disrespect or a lack of work ethic.

Have a pay review and tell him a raise will be given if he can demonstrate punctuality.

Slow to hire quick to fire.
If he is late 6/10 times and he was late the day after you said don’t be late again this won’t end well. If you don’t fire him one day he just won’t show up.
Implement a write up system 3 strikes and out. Make them sign up on the write up sheet each time so they can’t come after you for unlawful termination.
