Was like the compSci version of Clark Kent/superman with the obligatory love story added in to draw female viewers

The metaphor being that you really only find yourself if you’re willing to go down the right rabbit holes and have people more enlightened on esoteric concepts leading you to self discovery and realizing your full potential. In this sense, most people are NPCs who don’t even take the first step in that process, and it’s up to the “ones” who take that leap to help wake up the world from its sleep

My Philosophy 101 teacher proposed the same nature of reality concept to us. "What if you are attached to machines giving you feedback and living in a simulation," 2 yrs before before The Matrix came out. Definitely not an original plot in that regard. How they did it was rather badass though.
