gaming peaked in late 90's - late 2000's

brb CS 1.6
brb Diablo 2
brb Everquest
brb original WoW

people been trying to capture the essences of those games forever but it's really hard
Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

This. I'd still probably have as much fun playing the old NES Mario games as the Wii/Switch ones, or Techmo Bowl as the latest Madden game.

Actually, the Madden series really sums up my issue with video gaming in general. Every version of that game has pretty much been repeats since like 2002, with very few legit updates outside of roster updates and slight tweeks to the graphics each year. Everything always feels like repeats to me, including chit like FPS's. I'm not gonna get anything out of a new COD game or some chit that I didn't out of 007 Goldeneye in 1998.

I dunno about right now. I feel that the GOAT era of gaming was around 2007-2012 (i.e Xbox 360 era)

Skyrim
Mass Effect
Assassins Creed
Fallout 3 & NV
Dragon Age
Gears 1-3 (strongest stories)
Bioshock
Modern Warfare
Batman Arkham Asylum
Borderlands
Dead Rising
Crackdown
Red Dead Redemption
Dead Space

So many classic and fairly origional concept games during those 5 years. Games now are of course bigger, with better graphics and tricked out online MP, but that doesn't make them BETTER.

Best Dragon Age...the first
Best Mass Effect...the first
Best Borderlands..the first
Best Bioshock...the first

I tend to disagree only because yes, these games broke the mold. But then more often than not their sequels were pretty epic. Borderlands 3 was amazing. Same with RDR2 even though the first was also a great game. Dragon Age Inquisition was a better version of the original. An improved rehash, yes, but improved.

With games like CS, WOW, Everquest, Diablo what made the games really great was the community. Community has changed just like society has changed. Doesn't mean the games aren't still amazing, but there is definitely a different vibe when you play now, especially online.

I think I have passed over the target demographic for games in general. I played poker for a bit then realized that I need to read some poker books first. I have a WoW account but I just use it to set up auctions on the auction house for a few minutes and collect gold the next day.

There is an idle game on my phone called Cookie Clicker and I check that on the chitter and that's really the game that I'm actually playing, albeit very briefly. I just can't bring myself to get sucked into a video game when I always have money and bills on my mind.

Maybe when things improve then I can relax my mind and play some video games. For now the most I can do is watch a movie with dinner.

Jrpgs are worse than ever.

Wrpgs had a decent run but it feels like ages since a good one came out.

FPS is arguably changing too much from the mw2 formula. Borderlands 3 got cucked compared to 2 though in the loiter shooter department.

Car racing is probably better as are sports games but I don't play them.

Fighting games are probably better.

Open world is dropping the quality of story driven games so fukn hard though.

Oh? This is about the only genre of games that I still like/have some interest in although I haven't played one in a long time.

Other than that, I'm telling you guys Thrill of the Fight on Oculus is awesome. The developer is working on a second one that will have multiplayer.

As far as access it's the best time ever since you can just emulate 99% of games with a decent PC instantly and cheap or free. How they look and perform continues to be mind blowing even when it seems like it shouldn't be able to get any better.

Still will never recapture the feels though of having a blast playing and replaying some 5/10 game I bought with my allowance just because the cover looked cool.

This was @ Polaris.

FF12 TZA is the best rpg in years and it's a remaster. Dragon Quest 11 has great gameplay but it looks like baby's first rpg (literally). Berseria had potential but borders on harem troping and is kind of low budget. The trails series sucks (looks like a ps2 games, harem trope, limited exploration woth opportunity cost), persona 5 needed to have a LOT of fat trimmed to make it much more linear and I'd rate it higher but still suffers from a convuluted summon system and harem troping.

The team harem trope that 90% of them lean on need to die. If I feel embarrassed admitting I play x game then it's not good.

Recipe systems have mostly been garbage. FF9, KH 1 and 2 did it right as optional weapon building.

What should be a simple rpg battle system is often convuluted without adding enjoyment.

In the case of Ff7r, FF15 and KH you spend a decade waiting for the damn game only for it to suck, be released in 10 year installments or its spread over multiple platforms. Side quest hubs and crappy combat.

Games like tales are low budget to the point its like animated comic from the ps2 era.

I'm not sure if you're the one I was talking to about this before, but I started the first Trails of Cold Steel game several years ago and liked it. It was on my other laptop and I never finished it though - I need to go back and do that and then play the other ones. I guess I'm not that picky? I should take a look at the others you mentioned.

I'd say I enjoyed gaming more before due to nostalgia and having less important responsibilities; but I think part of what made gaming so good back then was how focused/engrossed you were in the video game itself.

OF COURSE YES AND AGAIN YES!

Gentlemen, what is the question in general? Of course, I agree that powerful computers are needed in order to play some new game. But what do you get in return? Graphics, mechanics and physics?

The storyline is extremely important. Whoever names at least one game with an interesting plot over the past year or two, well done!
