Agreed. Movie holds up so well 25+ years later. The only other movie I can think of that holds up like that is Jaws, which came out damn near 50 years ago (1975). Nuts.

The new Jurassic World movies are absolute trash. I sat through the first one (not in theaters), and couldn't believe how bad it was. It felt like they just made a halfasssed Godzilla monsters movie with some weird Terminator elements thrown into it or some chit. Didn't even feel like a Jurassic Park movie, which I can at least say about 2 and 3, despite all of their flaws.

Honestly it's not surprising at all, as there's only so much great plot material you're gonna get out of a concept like dinosaur movies, and they really drained most of it on the original film. Which was a good move imo, it's better to have one amazing classic and some halfasssed sequels than a slew of halfasssed movies entirely. At least we got one film out of it that genuinely seems to hold up through the test of time.
I have to say that to me, Lost World is worse than JPIII. It’s a cheap, thrown-together mess, designed to cash in quickly on the original.

I give it props for having more dinosaur action and animation.

However, the entire Ingen subplot is sort of cartoonish (villains trying to steal all the dinos, silly death scenes), and the new characters are thin/boring/dumb (Sarah brings a baby T Rex into their trailer - why are they surprised when mama comes looking for it?).

The T-Rex in San Diego makes zero sense. How did such a large creature track down and kill every person on the ship, despite the fact that they were presumably hiding in nooks and crannies that the T Rex couldn’t fit in?

What pissed me off about Fallen Kingdom was that it basically just acts as a reboot of Lost World. I hope Dominion is more original.

I still enjoy Jurassic World a lot. My ranking:

Jurassic Park (epic tier)
Jurassic World (good tier)
Jurassic Park III (amusing tier)
Lost World (mediocre tier)
Fallen Kingdom (mediocre tier)

Spielberg’s resume is absurd.

I don't disagree but LOTR still doesn't seem that old to me compared to JP

No trilogy has EVER fallen farther, not even the Matrix, but that's probably because of JP1 is an absolutle stone cold diamond of a movie. ****ing OUTSTANDING.
Smooth Seas don't make Strong Sailors. Keep your head up.

same, only I was 7 yo

I've never had a movie impact me in such a way

as already mentioned ITT it triggered an interest for dinosaurs in millions of kids but for me it also triggered a fascination for special effects, animatronics, ...

also by far the best use of CGI in a movie ever, it's only used when absolutely neccesary - as it should !

interesting vid:
