Wouldn't flashing the bios immediately remove the hash limiter?

Yeah top tier cards were $650 like 5 years ago. Now they're $1500 msrp.

When I can get top tier at $1k, I'll buy. Until then, I'm playing my 980ti & 1080ti until they croak.

I'd rather spend thousands of dollars on car parts, guitars, trips, or other hobbies.

My opinion after learning of the specs and price....

Very close to a 3090 on core count (much better than 3080). This include Cuda, Tensor, and RT cores. All 3 are super close to 3090 comparatively.
Identical ROP as a 3090, higher than 3080.
Same memory bus (384-bit) as a 3090, which means higher GBps bandwidth from the VRAM than a 3080, identical to 3090.
Due to memory bus size of 384-bit though, the Ampere architecture are configured to literally fit the same size as their 12GB VRAM modules. 3090 has 2 such modules (24GB), 3080 Ti has 1 (12GB).

If they gave the 3080 Ti 1 12GB, it still beats the 3080's 10GB, but is way less than 3090's 24GB, and doesn't devalue the 3090 for those needing more VRAM.
If they gave the 3080 Ti 2 12GB, the 3090 would become obsolete, barely better than a 3080 Ti and wouldn't be worth the $300 more in terms of MSRP.

GDDR6X VRAM is expensive, so in order for them to make the $300 margin difference ($1200 vs $1500 MSRP) practical, they have to omit the 1 module.

My verdict: Given supply/demand issues, scalping, AMD competition, blah blah blah. Those wanting a high end GPU and don't wanna go full on Titan pricing, get the 3080 Ti. Especially if you were initially looking at getting a super overclocked expensive 3080 variant. If you care about value, get the 3070. 3080 is kinda in no-mans-land in my eyes now. If you want the best of the best, 3090 is the way to go and would be a no brainer if cost isn't much of a factor.

would love to see your memory temps, my 3080 does not even flirt with 80c at max load gaming so what on earth are you doing touching 100c on the memory besides mining lmao

Reading comprehension & context

We were talking about the memory chips; not the GPU die

GDDR6X natively runs 100c or more; this is not measured through software

The 3080ti has 5% more performance than the 3080 for $500 more.

It's a rip off, but *******s will buy it anyway.

Those of us with brains said this would be the case when 3080Ti rumors came about months ago.

Obviously they weren't going to let it out perform the 3090...and the 3090 is already notthat muchmore performance than a 3080. You would have to be 100% retarded to pay $500 more for 2 more GB memory.

....and 10 is still plenty enough for 99% of people. Even demanding as fk games like Cyberpunk WITH ray tracing on at 4k still doesn't use all 10gb.

I've heard that Nvidia purposely used less VRAM so people will upgrade next gen instead of sitting on their cards like they did with the 10 series. Idk how true it is. I also don't have software to tell me how much Vram is actually used vs asked for. One of my games wants 13.5gb.

There's not a single game out currently that I know of that uses more than 10. Even with ray tracing and at 4k. The only way you would need more than 10 is modded texture packs and/or lots of game mods.

It will be years still until most people will have any need at all for more than 10 unless it's for non gaming reasons.

Still, it's nice AMD put 16 in everything. 3080ti should have 16-20.

Nvidia has been doing that since 2006 with VRAM

They purposely self-obsolete their cards

Both my gtx285 & gtx 480 ran out of VRAM in games often while AMD had double the amount

Memory modules aren't nearly as expensive as people think; I recall the 1080ti being built for about $90.00 USD

And this biggest f*ck you of all:

Here’s everything you need to know about RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition – available only at select Best Buy stores.

How to get your graphics card
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition graphics card will have limited quantities available on Thursday, June 3, at select Best Buy stores only.

Employees at participating stores will start handing out tickets at 7:30 a.m. local time. We’ll have as many tickets as graphics cards available at each store, which means if a customer gets a ticket, they will be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase a graphics card inside the store beginning at 9 a.m. local time.

Graphics cards are limited to one per customer.

Everyone: "Nvidia, do something about all of these fukking scalper bots!"

Nvidia: "Say no more! No online purchases at all!"

It's difficult to say how effective of a deterrent the LHR will even be for not just the 3080Ti, but the re-releases of older models, too.

Under "normal" circumstances it would still seem too close for comfort, but Nvidia is outright selling mining-specific cards now, so the limits also seem plain dumb for not setting a more assured percent to push more people towards their mining cards. They were already stupid enough to effectively crack their own solution with the 3060Ti trial run, so I'm not going to hold out hope that they're going to manage to beat the very sort of people who see this as a, "hold my beer," moment.

Miners only represent a segment of the problem actors, with the primary obstacle being anyone running scripts to game the checkout process and swipe all of the stock before actual humans could have a realistic chance.

EVGA is the only one I give actual credit to for taking the initiative to come up with a workable solution, and if given the choice, I'd honestly rather have seen Nvidia come up with a way to prevent the botting over releasing limited hash rate cards and calling it a day.

Exactly what I was talking about, and precisely what I think any reasonable person should be concerned about. If the VRMs fail and your vram gets toasted, it's not like you're going to be able to get a repair or exchange with the way things are now.

I wouldn't put it past them, especially when we look at the vram shenanigans they've pulled with just the last model released, the 3060Ti.

And as it stands, the 3080Ti is quite the joke launch for how little it improves over the 3080 for almost 2x the asking price. I mean, is the $1199 card going to beat the $800 (let's just say) 4000 card next generation when it's already so close to the current 3080? Talking strictly hypothetical but still listed MSRPs, I'd take the $699 3080 and save the $500 for a 4000 series upgrade.

Back to vram usage, the current cards will be sufficient for what's out right now, barring VR, but like I keep saying, we have no idea what the future has in store. We're still too early in the newconsolegeneration for there to even be many (if any) games developed to push the envelope, and we don't know how optimized or unoptimized they'll be when it comes to vram utilization.

That's not going to be much of an issue for people who would upgrade anyways, but for those like myself who upgrade in spread out increments, it's definitely more of a concern to drop so much money on a GPU, only for it to become prematurely outdated because it turns out that Nvidia's 3000 series bets didn't pay off.

I might end up eating my words because I got into the EVGA Elite queue for the FTW3.

I didn't even have an intention of trying, but then figured, "screw it," and managed to eventually get in before the entire site went haywire.

What gets me is just how bloody difficult is it for the rest of these chucklef*cks to do something similar? None of this would be nearly as bad if people refused to give scalpers business, which is what set off this avalanche of price gouging. Bot squaters can only sit on thousands of dollars of hardware for so long before it bites them right back in the ass.

But now? Screw it. The whole market is f*cked because people let scalpers set the real price, and now Nvidia and the third parties are getting in on the action. The 2000 series was an RTX fluke that Nvidiasort oflearned their lesson on, but the 4000 series is going to be a proper mess.

Scalpers don't ruin the market prices, it's still driven by supply vs demand. Ps5 are still selling for a market price of around $700, Xbox Series X is closer to $600. I'm sure scalpers would like to keep that price high on xboxs too but demand just isn't as strong. GPUs are in a much bigger shortage.

Best Buy had the 3080 ti first come first served and I could've nabbed one if I got in line last night. It was definitely worth it given the market price is $1k over the retail, just didn't want it that bad.

I may set an alarm to get into the EVGA queue tmrw. I've been in the 3080/3090 queue since January though and that hasn't resulted in anything yet. This whole situation continues to be ridiculous.

Not that the 3080ti is any kind of good value, but I thought about going early this morning to Best Buy just on the off chance that they might still have something left, but unfortunately I work for a living. Meanwhile, it's likely that the person that was able to buy one is some fat unemployed loser who is getting paid through my tax dollars to sit at home on his ass. Fk this clown world (yes, I'm a little rustled).

I got into the queue for 4 cards eventually. The site finally started actually working (sort of) around 11:30AM EST. I then got into the elite queue for the cards that were available.

Trying to figure out what the deal is with this specific card:

https://www.evga.com/products/produc...12G-P5-3967-K2

It's not "sold out" like the others, but there's no auto-notify option, nor is there any way to add it to your cart, nor does it say "Elite Only".

That's a price of a full modern PC with a solid medium tier card - well was. Wtf is going on?
