I've had two girlfriends in past that were connected to Thailand. One from college who's mother was Thai, and one exchange student straight from Bangkok. Here's the reality:

1) Roughly 90% of the women that work in red light districts in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, etc all come from the same region - Isaan, an agricultural center for the country. It's the big area that takes up the northeast corner of the country, and the only one that doesn't have any big city of interest (even the northwest has Chang Mai).

2) Thailand has (or can have) a literally 100% employment rate due to the economic realities of rice cultivation. The more people working the rice fields, the more rice produced. Rice is way different than the acreage requirements of other grains that limit how many people can be involved.

3) So with regards to Thai prostitutes - none of them are escaping starvation/destitution in the same way that hookers in Philippines or Venezuela might be. These are women who simply just don't want to work in the rice fields. None of them are hookers because "its their only option" like how it is in other countries. They legit are there with the hopes of meeting some nordic or anglo guy that will take them to their western country so they can enjoy a better life, and hopefully set up some friends with western men as well

Also, I should add - since all of the hookers are from the same region, they ALL know some woman or another that did meet her future nordic or anglo husband while working in the RLD areas. And they hear stories of how good life is for those chicks when they move abroad. Likewise, when a thai girl marries a western man and moves abroad, they usually start playing matchmaker & setting up other local isaan chicks with men from those countries. It's a huge way to build face and achieve "matron" status in their culture.

For that outcome, and not having to work the fields all day, but sleep while the hot sun is out & party/drink with your girl friends at the bars all night, you can get why a lot of them do it. The notion of the "secret thai boyfriend" is bullchit - like maybe 1 or 2 out of 10,000 have that. Most of these girls dont' want lazy thai local husbands - they want husbands that give them apple products & move them to their home country. It's really a lot more simple and a lot less devious than the incels here make it sound. And if it doesn't work out, they can always go back to plan b of working the fields back home.

I went to Thailand with a friend but by the time we got to Bangkok, I was too busy adventuring to head to the strip clubs.
