Seems like a valid assistance exercise that can benefit some people. I've never done them but I have a well developed bubble butt from just squats and deadlifts.

I really think if females want to develop their lower body. They can literally just do a leg day of only barbell squats and they'll do just fine. High bar, low bar, deep ATG with something under the heels for flexibility, work up to a 5 rep max, work their way down with lighter weights. Finish up with 20 rep sets. Etc.

Obviously the fitness influencers aren't going to tell people the most effective thing they can do is just a bunch of squatting. But I personally believe only squats will be more effective then a bunch of flashy looking exercises. Sorry but your donkey kicks, hip abductions, glute thrusts, leg presses, etc. aren't overloading your muscles the same way as heavy squats.

Put my girlfriend through a mild squat only lower workout and she wasn't able to air squat without her legs cramping and walked with a limp. Talking literally just about 12 totals sets of squats.... But she can power through about 30 working sets of all the other BS leg exercises girls do.

No. I started off lifting with lots of deads. My glutes were overpowering for the longest time.

Combined with squats rdl lunges etc Never saw the need to try and isolate them. Nor has any successful bodybuilder

they're pretty legit

i think one of the few, if not the only exercise that hits the glutes from a horizontal plane plus has decent range of motion. less aid from hamstrings and lower back. I did these for awhile while my back was recovering from a strain.

might not need to do them if you already do squats and RDL but doesn't hurt to do some accessory work if that is your thing. dat dere vertical thrusting power certainly isn't a negative.

thing is though it can be a pain in the fuking ass to set up. I think a lot of people go too heavy on these instead of focusing on range of motion and squeezing those glutes at the top.

I used to deadlift and squat quite heavy (500+ dl and regularly would rep 3 plates on squats for 6-9) and no other exercise exhausted my glutes the same as a hip thrust

dont knock it till you try it

why would you be against women getting booty gains?

Fair point!
You just reminded me of this tall thin Blonde Swedish aupair looking girl at my gym who did them super heavy on the Smith machine at my gym. She went from a flat non existent ass to an omg 3d ass after about a year of doing them. So yes they do work now that I think of it.
