IMO best thing you can do is use ethanol free fuel. It's the fuel that will kill small engines in a few years if you use it and let it sit for any amount of time.

^ 2 people say they never change the oil in 7 years. I change it twice in a year ONLY because I checked it... it was almost out both times. It sounds funny and you can smell when the oil is low. I bought this mower less than 2 years ago. $500 bucks.

I use a bench grinder, but you can use a file, angle grinder, etc.My last mower died because the oil was so dirty that it clogged the tiny ports where the oil slings to lubricate the flywheel shaft. The hole that the shaft goes through became oval shaped and it would tilt the flywheel just enough to stop the magneto from making a spark. I tore the whole motor apart and it looked absolutely pristine otherwise and would have run for decades otherwise - I'd much rather change the oil 1 or 2x per year than replace a good mower.

Honda GCV 170 and GCV 200 take 13.5 oz 10w-30 oil. No drain plug on the bottom. Take the dipstick out and drain the oil bye tipping the unit on its side (shut the fuel valve off first) and replace w/ 13.5 oz. Put the dipstick in and run it a few min. Then remove the dipstick, clean it, and replace it BUT DON’T SCREW IT IN. Pull it out (again, after just placing it in the hole but not screwing it in) to read the level.\This is generally right except for that there isn’t a drain plug.

I just inherited one from my parents who moved out of their house last summer. Had it a year now, the thing is probably at least 5+ years old. I have yet bother with oil changes or any sort of maintenance except for replacing the pull starter rope that broke on me once. Didn't bother "winterizing" it either, just left it filled with gas in the garage despite the fact that we get down to -20'F (more like -50'F wind chill) every winter. It still fires up with zero issues, like it was brand new.

It's also by far the easiest mower I've ever pushed. The thing floats across the lawn just by pushing it and is no harder to operate than those gas mowere that have the lever you can hold to make them push aumtomatically. Seems like the thing will last another 10+ years if the way it's been for me so far is any indication.

Have the same mower, it’s a beast, light as hell too.

Not winterizing almost burned me though, carb filters and carb itself almost got fuked using ethanol fuel. Started using sea foam as a fuel stabilizer and switch the fuel line off and run the carb dry when finishing mowing, takes 1 minute extra.

Third year I had my mower I had to replace the oil. Filled it with good automotive oil. Have never changed it since. The stuff they give you is bottom of the barrel oil that’s so bad you can’t even buy it anywhere.

If you fill it with premium or TruFuel the fuel will take years to degrade.
