80% in an index fund and keep 20% for play, probably put 10% on long shot stocks and 10% into crypto. Or all 20% into crypto.

But the best option is to actually learn how the best investors invest, warren buffett, charlie munger, mohnish pabrai... read all their books. If you don't do that, dollar cost average into an index fund and forget about it

Most people buy ETF index funds, such as the S&P 500 or something that tracks the Dow. It isn't as exciting investing that way but is less risky than buying individual stocks.

Primarily stick to actual shares, given that they never expire, and if they take a turn you can just hold onto them for months or even years until they net you a profit.
Options are good if you "know" the stock is gonna shoot up (Calls) or down (Puts). Avoid Puts though IMO, and don't invest into options more than you're willing to, kinda like gambling.

As others have said if noob and want safe investing stick to the big ETFS e.g. SPY, QQQ, VOO, etc.
If you get in on dumb memes like NIO, GME, AMC, etc etc only allocate a small (5%) of your portfolio to it and be peppered to lose it all. Chances are if youre hearing about it and its up >10% youre already too late and just funding someones pump
Max out ROTH IRA if you can as supplement to 401k/other retirement fund
Dont check the stonk too often/be alarmed by a few % falls, trust the process long term it will go up
Dont be the idiot who sells at the bottom of a crash unless you desperately need the $ (in which case you shouldnt be investing it)

No one has given you any actual methods for investment. Just investment vehicles.
You want to take use tax advantaged accounts as much as possible
- If your employer offers a 401k match, invest whatever you need to maximize that match. Its free money.
- Next invest in Roth accounts. Its an after tax investment that won't be taxed again. The Roth IRA cap for the year is $6500.
- If your employer offers a Roth 401k, invest whatever extra you have here. The cap is $19,500 a year
- Finally, traditional 401k. Same as the Roth but its taken out before taxes
This is all assuming you're not self-employed. I don't have a lot of experience with that.
