Isn’t it true that in the USA, there were no more deaths in 2020 than in 2019?
It’s almost as if covid mainly affects ppl already on death’s door and proper education about at-risk demographics and prophylactic health measures would be more effective than general fear mongering.

So why can’t we report daily deaths from other stuff such as Heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes etc?
The daily deaths of people WITH covid (not even necessarily even FROM covid) caused a massive amount of people to want to throw all of their freedoms and life’s little luxuries away... so maybe these same people will be scared into putting down the cake or cigarette if they saw chit like obesity/smoker related deaths per day?
Just food for thought tbh.

fall is going to be a blood bath with the delta variant out there and vaccines loosing efficiency. we need a booster shot now. i asked my doctor if i just went and got a 3rd shot would it help against the delta but it seemed like he didnt really know. all he told me is that FDA doesnt allow it. But i think you could go get one again if you asked for it and told them you never had one. but no information out there if it would help. feel like biden is letting us down here.

Putting extra tax on sugar/alcohol and cigarettes hasn’t really helped, neither has ongoing campaigns, putting gross images of smoking related health affects on cigarette packaging (in the UK anyways). None of this has helped.
So maybe we just need to hit hard with the same death toll reporting that is being used for Covid? Might wake some folks up?

how you know this marketing campaign is a sham is that the average person in the US gained like 30 lbs during the pandemic. we knew early on being a fat-cel that does zero exercises increases your chances highly. for people who claim to be so scared of unvaccinated people spreading it and them getting it, people sure seem to be doing the opposite of what they should be doing lol.
not that I agree with the fear-mongering tactics for things like that, but the world is in for some interesting times ahead if the trajectory continues. might need another virus that is actually deadly to cleanse most of the fat/obese-cels and do a hard reset from there. i think there is no turning back and society is actually phucked in the next 70-80 years. we had our chance in the 90s and 00s to try and nip it in the bud. who knows, we might have bigger problems than just fatties walking around.

Agree. Zero context.
It is rare that they compare deaths to positive covid cases now vs last year (big difference but not really demonstrated).

If an diabetic obese person catches the news at 6 and it has a little list of the days death statistics and they see that 600 people have died today from the beetus... might make them stop and think, and then they can make a more informed decision on that takeaway they were thinking of ordering.
Why not use the reporting infrastructure that has been created for Covid and utilise it to help tackle our other health concerns? Let people do what they want but bombard them with information about the consequences.

I get what you are saying but it shouldn’t be for the government to create nutritional guidelines, it’s up to the individual to know and monitor their own health. Most obese people are aware that they are fat, they are also aware that they are gaining or that they are pre-diabetic for instance. So seeing the news that 600 people today died from obesity related diabetes might just be the kick up the backside they needed to be a bit more careful with their own health?
On a similar note, we have a “daily recommended calorie allowance” printed on most of our foods. Puts women at 2000 kcals a day.... That is a massive amount for my body. I am only 5ft1, and my BMR is around 1300 kcals... If I ate 2000 kcals a day and lived an average sedentary lifestyle... I would be gaining about a lb a week!So I take issue with that sort of guidance being spouted at people when it can vary so much. People need to be accountable for themselves, just give some some proven facts and let them make the choice.
Just something like this...
Daily deaths (not real stats obvs!)
Lung cancer - 450
Diabetes - 600
Heart disease - 650
Covid -65
Childbirth - 3
Domestic murder - 2
Labrador attacks - 9000+
Then people can either go “oh ****, I am diabetic/getting battered about/own a Labrador... that could be me, how can I reduce my risk?!”... or “Meh, won’t happen to me”. Up to them.

I agree that the daily calorie recommendations are kind of a mess. At the least I think that the daily recommendations could have more information, as in X calories a day for a woman of X height/weight/age/activity level because we know that all of those matter along with individual metabolism.
If you are a small grandma who doesn't move around much you aren't going to need as much energy as a tall female teenager who plays sports, or a 30-something nursing mother who works on her feet all day.

Smoking-related deaths would be like thousands every day right
Using covid logic you could count anyone who died from anything that was a regular smoker at any time of their life
