The rhetoric is that our current situation is because of people refusing the vaccine. There is no evidence that the unvaccinated have created some super strain that is now the cause of this resurgence. That’s the narrative being shoved down our throats: not getting vaxxed caused this. It’s plain propaganda and I’ve seen it casually mentioned in multiple places from people who don’t know anything, and even people who should know better but aren’t bothering to use the brain power to question the narrative as they have high openness/agreeableness as personality traits.

If a novel strain arises in the unvaccinated solely, spreads to the vaccinated, and is proven to be because of them, then the statement is correct. In the meantime it’s blaming vaccine hesitancy for a strain that predates the vaccine, and low-information hypotheses of what could potentially happen.

Delta has proven an equivalent viral load can exist even in the vaccinated, those viral loads will mutate the same way they would in the nose of the unvaccinated. A strain specifically overcoming the vaccine would logically be more likely to arise in that scenario as the organism contends with an immune system primed a certain way and the surviving mutagens spread to other folk confident of their immunity through the vaccine.

Why do you think the CDC is recommending masking for the vaccinated? If the severity of symptoms are muted then you have a lot of asymptomatic carriers running around virtue signaling about doing their part. We know masks are generally ineffective outside of reducing initial viral load, and during lockdowns people still spread it widely as human contact is necessary. Pushing the vaccine is just the governments refusing to admit they are relatively helpless at fully stopping Covid, so they like to use noncompliance to their demands as a scapegoat.

We know where it came from. India around December 2020 then spread probably from the U.K. to here. It is only due to the unvaccinated because the vaccine wasn’t available publicly yet. I think that’s around the time I was told as a frontline worker I could get it in January.

The idea that current vaccine hesitant people are to blame for this is absurd. Maybe to the extent that they may have continued to propagate it maybe 30-50% more than the vaxxed, but many vaxxed people confidently congregated on a large scale thinking they were immune while still sub-symptomatically carrying the variant. I can accept the unvaccinated may be more culpable but this virtue signaling that it’s all the unvaccinated is patently absurd. Blame international travelers coming here if you want—-I doubt many vaccine hesitant US people were flying to India and Europe and brought it back.

Hopefully the antiviral pills and other treatments do prove effective, but places like Australia and LA have made it clear they want to signal their ineffective hygiene theater for a wave not nearly as devastating as their disproportionate response. Some countries will go full totalitarian even if the fatalities and severe symptoms are reduced through more effective medical interventions. Can’t have more than a few cases even if the casualties are minimal, better to socially and economically cripple your country than admit to the world some of your citizens have a viral infection.

You're putting way, way too much thought into Covid; if you had Influenza you would take Tylenol & eat chicken noodle soup on the couch watching TV and not think twice about it even though it's just as dangerous as Covid

I agree with you, but I don’t think we should put all of our eggs in the “emergency use” basket.

With the level of corruption and obvious capture of most of our institutions, we should expect that this will be approved by the FDA in the near future. That’ll knock the legs out from underneath that argument.

The variant was going to happen regardless, that is what viruses do, they mutate into more contagious but less lethal variants for self preservation...Ever notice how all you have been hearing about is cases and transmissibility? Never lethality because it's even less lethal than the wild type virus which for 98% of the population was 95-99% survival rate so it's even less lethal now. Also if you think lockdowns did anything good you couldn't be more wrong...They don't stop anything, they cause more harm than good and kill more people than save.. people who were scared into submission to not seek out medical treatment for other things, cancer patients not going to chemo etc.
