it's not being 'friendly' it just doesn't care, the bear isn't threatened by the humans but also won't straight up attack them because of factors like assessing risk, not being hungry etc

he's just telling it he's not going to go down easy. The thing is animals are intelligent and assess risk to reward ratio, bears are solitary hunters and if they get injured they're phucked. Unless it's starving it's probably just thinking "not worth it man"


However... If the bear feels threatened by his actions and doesn't think it can get away it'll go into the fight mode mode since the flight option is out in its mind. So you really have to be smart about it


People say around grizzlies just act dead which to me is outdated and retarded. That's probably only better if the bear has a cub since it'll defend it no matter what

They're sooo lucky.
Laying down for a grizzly is only to show you're not a threat after he's already attacking you. If he sees you as food, laying down just makes it easier for him to eat you.

lol if I was there that bear would be WELL ADVISED to keep walking as I just absolutely STARED him down with my hands on my hips intimidating the absolute chit out of him. If he even DARED to move towards me in ANY kind of aggressive manner, I would cock my foot back, in striking position. Then if the bear is dumb enough to STILL continue to aggro me, I would move forward and kick him in the nuts, absolutely destroying him and crushing his morale. It would be so devastating that the bear would not even mate with females anymore, it would turn ghey.
