Same OP.
Ever since I went 1 month without drinking, whenever I drink heavy now I get a hangover so bad that it makes me not drink again for weeks. It really messes your mind up too and emotions. Proper makes you realise just what damage it does to your entire body. Feel bad for low self controlcels who drink every weekend srs

Drinking a lot when you’re older is cringe and cope though.

I did 8 months sober last year and it was amazing. Now I'm stuck in a viscous cycle of going out every night and getting yucky with the fkin bois. Having a blast but being sober is pretty nice. Maybe after summer.

Drank daily for years. Quit cold turkey (with the help of kratom, though) and have drunk a handful of times, since, and it's been a couple years.
Also quit cigs. Noticed a huge difference cutting those two things out.
Call me crazy, but when I cut out fapping, I also feel better.

I feel like a blanket ban on something so ingrained within the culture (in UK, anyway) is ultimately unsustainable. But i had to cut my **** back too. I always said nahh im an all or nothing guy. Two years of failed attempts and now i can have 3-4 beers, get a nice buzz on, and then call it a day before i pass into drunk state. Get to bed at a reasonable time
Maybe once a month ill go to a gig and get yucky or whatever. I have a high stress job and its fun to let loose. But it has to be a special event. No getting ****ed up on the sofa for no reason.
The key was switching from chit tier lager to >5% IPAs. You can really sit and enjoy those, instead of throwing them down as quickly as possible, just to get pissed.
Everything in moderation, men. Pizza, alcohol, tren etc.

I felt that too. I think it is possible to drink in a "healthy" way, but, at least in my case, I preferred to cut alcohol out of my life completely.
I feel that I handle my problems better and I feel that I spend my money on things that are more worthwhile as well.

alcohol is chit in any amount/moderation. can't stand *******s that constantly glorify drinking while at the same time likely knowing they need to stop drinking and attempting to peer pressure other people into joining in on their debauchery

I need to follow suit OP. I've slowed it down but not enough. Even slowing down I notice less anxiety. I've gone dry for awhile before, so I know it's good. I know myself though. For the long term I'll need a substitute. Like smoke a couple times a week, edibles occasionally.

I stopped drinking back in March 2020 before things went to sh!t cus of the rona.
Eventually I kind of just stopped caring and forgot about it.
My gym progress has been crazy, quality of sleep is better, more money in my pocket is great, mental clarity is wonderful too.
I'll come back to a nice craft beer once in a while instead of just slamming drinks cus it's something to do.

It seems like every time I try to stop drinking I end up drinking more. This is my third day in a row of getting wasted.

So many of my personal probs growing up can easily be linked to the extreme disparity between over and underachievement here, rather than just being a healthy/balanced person. (disappearing middle class too)

Drinking a lot when you’re older is cringe and cope though.

I think as you get older though, alcohol starts being less fun and more counter-productive. If you have goals/ambitions/dreams etc, anything you do on a regular basis that is bad for you, or holds you back or makes accomplishing your goals harder than it needs to be - is pointless.

I read a study the other day actually that said something like high (or) consistent low alcohol use, limits protein synthesis by like 30-40%.
It also can fuk with fat loss more so than just the excess liquid calories. Because when your body ingests a poison, it burns that off first before doing anything else (e.g. fat loss).
I made a list to help me cut back on drinking. Not that it was everbad, but it was like a bottle of wine a night with dinner with the mrs or something. I'm drinking mostly just weekends now, but thinking of blocking it out all together for 1 month, then 3, then 6 and see how I feel. Got a lot of weddings and stuff and we just came out of lockdown not too long ago, so its kinda hard - as everyone seems to be an alcoholic now and wanting to socialise 24/7.
* Saves money (probably legit spend a few grand a year on alcohol, or things as a result of alcohol - thats for 2 people mind you)
* Saves Calories (so physique would look better)
* More likely to hit the gym and have good sessions + recovery (better physique)
* Higher protein synthesis uptake (better physique)
* Fuks with hormonal balances less (higher test, better mood, lower anxiety, bad vibe thoughts)
* Would get up earlier and be more awake, so more likely to get more work done or cardio etc.
* More likely to be more productive if im not drinking, e.g. working , reading, meditating, working out etc whatever
* Better physique for me and the mrs
* Less likely to go off piste with my diet and eat chit foods like pizza or whatever.
* Better skin, hair, face aesthetics etc.
* Save money on taxis/cabs because I could drive more places.
There were a bunch of other things too, but i cant remember them
I'd be interested to hear from people who have been clean from everything for like 1 month, or 3 months, 6 months etc and see what they noticed the biggest changes were.
For me to go T-total - the biggest reason would be, by drinking - I'm literally not adding anything positive to my life. Even if its 1 bottle of beer on a Friday night. You can get good tasting no-alcohol beers if i really wanted to - so literally what is the point. It only adds negatives.
