Mask mandate isn’t enough reason to leave a state. At the end of the day the best place is usually where you’re surrounded by friends and family.

There aren’t that many great places to live in the US. You’ve got LA, SD, OC, Chicago, NYC, Dallas, maybe south Florida. Probably a couple more places.

The Bay Area sucks unless you’re balling and if given the choice of the same salary I’d take nyc all day.

But if you have no friends or family outside of the bay then it’s a tougher decision.

I make good money, I can afford to rent a nice place in a good location

Friends/family: I only have 1 family member, my father, who made the horrible mistake of moving to Reno in 2012. I have friends here in the bay, but they aren't great friends. Due to the economics of this place, people are constantly leaving. I had a friend whose family lived here for 3 generations, his entire family GTFOed to nashville. Others who can't move their entire family usually relocate to places like Stockton and Sacramento once the bay area housing costs price em out

Also I dunno about you but the mask mandates fking suck. You can't meet new people this way. There is literally nothing to do other than walk/bike outside or hang out at people's apartments. I just came back to SF from NYC four days ago, went to a party at a friend's house in San Jose, and all I've been doing since is being stuck in this apartment. I hate it here. The only pro is I have some friends here, but I don't even see them that often, because everyone's spread out across northern california and travel is so difficult

What's wrong with that? Scanning a QR code to check out the menu and pay the bill is infinitely better than the old fashioned way. I hope every restaurant eventually moves to doing this.

I mean its a toss up, I told myself if I ever had to move somewhere midwest Chicago is number 1, beautiful city during the fall and spring time, summer is okay the humidity blows but its doable but the winters? thats the tough part. So you sacrifice the weather but if you can land a job paying the same or better then do it why even hesitate. If my whole family wasn't still here I'd consider it much harder

California has become a real chithole, a dystopian nightmare. The California dream is dead, nothing but despair left in it's wake.

San Jose is one of the worst cities in CA. It's too land-locked by mountains and ocean, with nowhere to build. The weather is always cloudy, cold and dreary, which puts a damper on outdoors activity. It doesn't seem to have that much a city life either. It's rather dull and boring. The Bay area in general seems over-rated. Southern California is way better.I don't think it will though.


Edit to add: To OP, do plenty of research first, then make small trips to test drive where you'd like to move to. Then once narrowed down, make longer trips. You really can't get to know a better place until after you spend some time there.

In CA, & never wear a mask..ever. San Diego brah. The only places I’ve been asked too were a liberal coffee place (I told them, no thanks) & a furniture store. Bay area seems pretty cucked, but I wouldn’t expect NY to be any better. When they tell me I cannot work anymore without being vaxxed, I’m out.

The masks, the politics, the yuppy liberals everywhere, the parking, the cost of everything, the women are not good looking. Great scenery and thats about it.

I think I am leaving. We can work from home now and I should move somewhere cheaper. Would be a smart move financially. I will miss the weather. I might move back if the housing bubble bursts again.

I would have moved already except for the fact that I need to be close enough to check in on my parents at least every couple of weeks since they're pretty old

California was the GOAT place to grow up in the 80s-2000s

It has gotten a LOT worse over a very short period of time in a way that I don't think is reversible

If you are doing well maybe make the move to NYC. Best dating scene for a guy and endless possibilities ( at least pre covid). Nowhere in the US compares.

LA is fun but if you know no one there it may be tough to make mew friends and you’ll be driving A lot.

San Diego is great as well. Much more condensed than LA. Girls are hot but lots of dudes and basically a laid back beach town.

Chicago- NYC lite. Urban city that has good dating scene for a guy and is affordable. Easy to walk around and the good places are all within 10 min drives.

Dallas- up and coming. Have to live in uptown for the walkable part.

Miami- never been and have heard mixed reviews. Great party place and place to be a guy but superficial and may be better to speak Spanish.

Austin- overrated and expensive to live downtown college town. I see no reason to go there over above choices.

If I were you I’d go NYC/ La. i see no reason to go to Chicago over nyc other than affordability.


Chicago and Dallas are value plays.

If I had ever decided to live in a major city it would have been Chicago. Specifically the the Gold Coast area between Michigan Avenue and the Lincoln Park zoo.
