The notion of gain of function is thrown around too ambiguously and is reading evil motives and interpolating the evil scientist narrative onto a process that is actually business as usual in the world of virology; something that should be done because it helps us understand viruses, find vaccine targets and predict the next pandemic.


Secondly, the types of viruses those grants describe are different to what Covid is. Covid isn't one long big copy and paste like the chimeric viruses are.
