My best friend in high school got divorced. His ex's new boyfriend beat his kid. Nothing he could do about it.

His brother got divorced twice. He was in the army and saved all his money. His wife raided his $80,000 in saving to pay off her student loans and then left him.

One of my roommates, really nice guy, got divorced by his wife. He owed child support for a kid who looked nothing like him. He had to pay alimony based on his peak income instead of his current income. He was only able to get the difference tacked on the end and had to pay interest.

I've heard of CEOs who want to quit their high stress jobs but can't. Also men who want to retire early but are ordered by the courts to keep on working into old age to provide their ex all that money.

Only women are allowed to divorce. Men are not allowed to divorce. They can just move out. The wife keeps all the benefits of marriage for life. This is modern day slavery.

this one is a trip. my family friend dad getting divorce soon:
-second marriage
-she goes crazy after some years, they recently plan to separate
-dad now has option to divorce and leave her with $ or die and leave her with everything (low millions) (he’s very ill)
-stepmom supports addict son from prior marriage so dads lifetime savings will go to this stepmom and her addict son of which leaves his bio daughter with nothing

In almost every state, 10 years is enough to get alimony for life. Good luck getting it finalized in time if you wait till 9 years.

It is normal to pay 60% of your income.

The ex will not remarry every. Why would she?

He should never have remarried when he had a bio daughter. He should have made his daughter his #1 life priority.

The ex wife’s boyfriend shot the ex husband in his own home, in his bed next to his new wife.

The little girl was also in the house.

He died. I don’t think it gets worse than that

Oh and while he was dying he knew the ex wife had their 15 year old girl living with her

The 15 year old was also on drugs and refused to live with her dad. The mom was whoring her out for pills.
A woman who was whoring her 15 y/o daughter out for drug money was mad because her ex husband had recently gained custody of their younger daughter who was 7 y/o. She convinced her new boyfriend to go over to the ex husbands house and murder him, shooting him in the head as he slept next to his new wife.

We got there in the end.

I only finally understood it after reading this summary even after the edit, sorry snails lmao

Crazy story though, especially having that outcome after the dad basically rescued the younger daughter from junkie mom.

What happened to the ex wife?

she is in prison. We represented the father then the step mother after the father passed. The step mother has custody of the youngest. The 15 year old went to live with her grandmother (on her moms side). The 15 year old is over 18 now.

yeah my uncle's story from my post, his ex-wife waited until the day the alimony payments stopped to get married.

I must live under a rock. In all my years I've never heard any nightmare stories like this. The last person I know who got divorced was my youngest brother and he made out just fine and has 2 boys.

My dad. Can't give numbers or anything, because I simply don't know.

Way long ago, perhaps a decade prior to my birth, dad was marrying someone while he was corporate maxxing making literally $150k+ at the time. Wife had a decent job too, but was an alcoholic and drug user. Divorce was in the works. During the process of divorce, she decides to max his corporate credit cards on a crazy spree of vacations and fun. He can't afford it, gets fired, and gets completely blacklisted from the entire industry/career. He has to start over. Its been like 40 years and he never ever financially recovered from that, never will till death tbh. I'd not be born if it weren't for some of those things, but still. He has had two divorces, but I think that one is also the only one which also involved child support + alimony as well. I've only heard his side of things, the ex wife is already dead from alcoholism related health issues.

Like a marriage version of a β€œscorched earth” policy. I like it.

Luckily I made sure to marry someone who made more money than I did. That's important for any guy. If you marry a woman who has no job prospects and no real career you're an idiot.

My most recent ex made over six figures when I met her and when she wanted to quit that job and open a retail store I was like nope, see ya. Not saddling myself with someone else's lack of ambition. Current girl makes 150k a year.
