Thanks for the condolences.
My Dad didnt have Covid and never had the shot. They tested him when he went into the hospital and it was negative everywhere. My Dad lived with me and had not been out of the house in over 2 years.
He got congestive heart failure and cellulitis from the COPD. COPD destroys your lungs and when your lungs dont work, your heart doesnt work. Sooner or later you get cellulitis which is an infection under the skin.
Here are some interesting facts that I remember reading about COPD:
-Roughly 25% of smokers will get COPD
-85-90% of people who get COPD smoked
My Dad at one time smoked 2-3 packs a day. Years ago everyone smoked in the office and it was a disgusting place to work.

Sorry for your loss man.
Really grateful smoking was never an issue for me. I have a grandpa that picked up smoking while he was a soldier is WWII. He smoked quite a bit, maybe into his 40s. My mom tells the story that he had an old war buddy come by his shop (my grandpa was a TV repair man) who was on oxygen dying of emphysema. Grandpa quit cold turkey the next day. He's actually my last living grandparent at 97. For all you guys smoking, now is the time to stop. The human body has a marvelous ability to repair itself and the sooner you stop, the sooner your body can start healing. So sorry OP's dad wasn't able to heal up, but in a lot of cases, depending on how long you smoked and a genetic roll of the dice you can still have a long healthy life.

Anyone on this board who smokes should stop. Until you see a loved one on oxygen 24x7 you really have no idea.
I know way to much about it as I have been my father's caregiver for 7-8 years.
YOU DONT SURVIVE IT and there is NO CURE.
