This, or gently hit the wall with a hammer to feel/hear when you hit a stud. Also, be sure to take your time and draw the dimensions for the holes on the actual wall, and use a level when doing so. (Ded fkn Srs)

Yeah but it doesn't really look right mounted low on a wall either. A stand is the way to go unless space is a major issue.

Hollow wall anchors worked well for me. I hung a few big TV's at a school and they worked fine, but I also had a timber stud I was fixing into as well. I used the ramset brand and the ramset hollow wall gun.
