well for starters the title is a play on ignoring global warming, AKA "dont look up at the comet coming to hit us" the writers were saying is like people seeing global warming happening right in front of our faces and half the media saying no its not and half the media saying its the end of days if we dont do something.

Unfortunately the movie takes the side of "we must do something" and makes everyone who says this is all nonsense as a joke or target of being made fun of, while the ones who actually believe there is a comet are the heroins.

Its a massive circle jerk for people who think global warming is a massive issue and everyone ignoring it is a buffoon

Because it's literally a giant allegory for global warming, and a parody of what libtards think conservatives think and act like. It's also a parody of DJT and while they think they're being clever it basically highlights libtards own lack of self awareness.
