After further digging it seems they adopted the kid when he was 17, and he's 19 now.

Divorce has gone through and they got shared custody.

Dude spent 7 years at an orphanage and when he grew up and got his family they went back to a Boys Ranch in 2020 and spent some time with other troubled kids. He wanted to help others and they intended to start a non profit to help the kids bridge the gap between youth home and family life.

They took the kid in at 17 - edited OP - but then things happened.
