Have experienced death of two cats and a rabbit. Each time cried like a little bittch
Worst part is when it comes to your attention and you know. For me the giveaway with cats was when they stood up and their paws just glided forward on the floor because they are too weak to stand upright.
Cat got sick with kidney failure last year. Vet low key recommended death but we wanted to try anything. $2k in dialysis and he got better. Later read that average life span for cats after that is 29 days. Our lived for two more months or so.
The sickness came like lightning in clear sky. We simply weren't ready for its death. In hindsight we might as well pull the plug from the get go. There are no good answers, but mentally you will be kind of stuck when they are sick while it might better to move on to new and better times
Just be there with them at the vets office. Getting put down can be frightful and it can help them if you are there for them.

Around the same time my sisters dog was put down in a vets office and said it was the single most traumatic experience of her life (dog was freaking out - panting w/ bloodshot eyes clawing at the door, vet rushed through it and gave the final shot before they were ready). No way I was going to take that chance.

Our cat passed away last night around midnight. she passed away peacefully without much pain surrounded by me and wife and our other cat. she was very weak and anaemic, let out one last giant breath and we saw her heart stop a bit after that.
we sent her for cremation today morning.
i will miss my friend trying not to break into tears like a little girl with a heartbreak.

My cat went in early 1992 when I was 15 & she was about the same age 15 or 16-she was dumped outside our house & eventually she came in with food after a couple of weeks in 1976/1977 winter & stayed. Very traumatic-she got a bit sick in the mid-week, by Saturday she was clearly in great discomfort & didn't seem to really even recognise us any longer. Went to bed on the Sunday night & woke up to find she had passed in the early hours of Monday, we were going to take her to the vets on the Monday-my brother had stayed with her until she fell asleep & she died sometime after that. My a'hole dad decided to bury her before I woke up & he went to work-never forgave him for that, it made it even harder & I was crying for weeks after school.

One of the most difficult experiences for sure. I agree with some who posted about having a hospice vet come by the house and euthanizing your pet in the environment they're most comfortable with. A few years ago my beloved dog's kidney's failed and a vet euthanized him in our living room with me sitting on the floor and him lying in my arms. I got to hold him as he died, saw the light leave his eyes, felt his last heartburn. Absolutely one of the most harrowing experiences of my life. Mind you his illness was incredibly sudden and it all happened so fast, so I was in a state of shock up until this happened.
It took me a solid month to not cry every day. You will never forget your cat and you will workthroughthe grief, not getoverit.
Try to focus on all the nice times you had together. Try to be appreciate of what you had and not what you are losing.

She'll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. I don't know if you're familiar with the poem but it always brings me peace when I lose a beloved pet. I'm putting it in spoilers in case you're not ready to read it yet.Spoiler!

Had to put my boxer down a couple weeks back. Still find myself occasionally looking for her, thinking I need to give her her pills etc.
Just know that you’re doing what is necessary. Quality of life is key.
Your cat is in a better place and isn’t hurting anymore bro!
