I wish I enjoyed it, much more beneficial for business than bodybuilding lol. Dad started me on lessons at like 13, I have a solid swing, but Id rather go to the range and smack the driver for 30 mins rather than dedicating 4+ hours to a round. Ive always been too impatient for the sport in general, definitely appreciate the skill tho.

Where I live there's a bit of a community revolt against golf because the courses take up so much land which make good parks that could be used by non-golfers. They found this out during Covid lockdown when golf was banned but people could use the course as a park. Pretty sure we have public golf courses which the community subsidizes.

It's an RPG grind for old white people.

You don't have to be rich to play it either. The munis here in southern California are full of poor white dudes and cholos looking to play whack-fukk for $40 on the weekend.

Par 3 and 9 hole courses are GOAT for getting drunk and fukking around. $30-ish green fees, done in 2 hours, get drunk af, wear flips flops to the course and no one cares, bring a dog on the golf course and no one cares... it's basically a bar/party with golf clubs.

because you get to shoot the **** with the boyos for a few hours while playing a sport most people suck at and can laugh at each other when they fuk up.

I currently live in a gated community with a top 50 golf course in the country. I'm a golfer but I suck unless I practice everyday which I don't. To answer OP's question, it's been one of the most popular pastimes of the rich, most people who play inherited it from their parents/grandparents. Perfect environment to make business deals in cause privacy, in nature, in the middle of nowhere with a relaxed atmosphere. Also expensive sport so it's a way to get away from the commoners.

I've tried to pick it up a couple times but I started too late to ever be good at it. Not very fun when the super competitive people get pissed when stuck behind someone who sucks at the game lol

It is a nice way to spend a beautiful day though. Would be better if courses didn't use as much fertilizer, pesticides, and water as they do. Golf courses could be real havens for nature/wildlife if people cared

Can only speak for the US generally but yes municipal courses are city funded; there's far more parks out there than golf courses, honestly people will get much more exercise playing golf than they will hanging out at a park so that's an ironic complaint

Try playing at smaller aforementioned municipal courses, after you spend a few weeks learning the basics at a driving range, the swing literally starts with holding the club properly and most people don't

Courses are nature preserves for small animals like birds & rodents of all kinds, the ponds are filled with turtles and fish that no one can legally mess with

Good opportunity to network and make connections. Plus it's an expensive sport so it gives an added exclusiveness and touch of class.

Golf costs very little honestly. You can go practice at a public facility for about 10 bucks a session and get on a public course for under 50 bucks. Especially on a weekday.

There was a public par 3 that during the day you could walk 9 holes for 7 bucks.

Lol you don't sit and stare at the water. You are actively trying to fool fish with how you move the lure.

It's a battle of skill then when you hook a monster it's a physical battle.

I've thought golf was popular with the people I know that play because it is an easy on the body sport that gets one outside and is easy to socialize with friends.
