NATO was created to counter the Soviet union, but since the fall of the SU, all NATO has really done is just fk with Russia, expanding around its borders with the "what are u gonna do about it" attitude. Why does the US need to have a FOB with other countries on Russia's border, US has all kinds of op's in the region let alone the newest tech.
The US is and always have given mass amounts of humanitarian/financial aid, technology, weapons, intel ..... other than Americans on the ground.

The US pays the most into NATO while all these other countries leech and if these other countries join in.... American will not only be financing everything, our troops would be some of the first to be sacrificed.

Larger NATO means more stability and deterrents against foreign conflicts, having the US as a member being a major one. US would be quite isolated geographically, so them having strong allies in Europe - mutually protected by Article 5 - means they can easily project force across the ocean, right in the neighbourhood of Russia and China for example.Yeah you have zero idea how any of this works. Who's going to get sacrificed where exactly? Who's leeching and what and how? Yes, many countries were dragging their feet to meet the 2% quota, but now that's being taken care of.

If US wants to station troops in Europe - and of course it would want to since once again, force projection and protecting interests/alliances - then that one's on themWhat Chinese aggression in which region? NATO members are NA and European.

But to answer your question: it's assisting Ukraine in A: bending over Russia and removing it as a future threat B: acting as a major deterrent to China and the rest of the globe by showing that NATO is actually ready to keep aggressors in check and trying to compete with the pockets and equipment of the two largest economic blocks - all this over Ukraine, which doesn't even register on the map compared to Taiwan - would be a terrible idea.


tl;dr - US being far the biggest player in the largest military alliance on the planet does actually carry some benefits for the US as well

I work with a guy from Finland and he says people back home tell him sentiment is running about 75% in favor. H says their biggest concern is the Russian Northern Fleet headquarters at Severomorsk. It's just a short ways over the border and has a large number of nuclear powered/armed vessels that could result in a huge radiation release if it were to become involved in a war.

Sweet, while the US continues to have it's standard of living eroded let's add another tit we can throw billows away too. Nothing will make Poots angrier than watching the US bleed itself dry.
