Going by your post, you clearly haven't made it yet in your mind, and that's ok. You're exactly where you're supposed to be right now, and now it's time for you to sit down... map out what making it means to you and find that path. It starts in the micro - the small daily things that add up day after day. For some, progress is just getting up and getting out of bed. For others its getting dressed. For you, maybe it's not having that next drink, or maybe it's just opening your eyes a bit to see the world outside of your day to day and really reflect on what making it is to you.

It's time, you're gonna make it.
Being happy with what you have, while still wanting more, is the key.

Being totally content and rotting is a mistake. However, so is thinking "once x y z happens THEN I'll be happy.". Achieving your goal feels great but soon that higher level will feel normal and you'll want something else. You shouldn't be miserable in the now, you should be happy while still desiring change for the better.

You ****s all need to learn to be content in the now while still striving for what's next.

Good point. I will say that there are some points/milestones in life that certainly make a difference. They arent as black and white as some miscers and people in real life think they will be however. One that I can attest to that is pretty life changing is "once you reach a point where you are not concerned with how much common every day things costs".....it puts you in a great mental mindset to focus and worry about more important things. That one was a game changer.

in order to prevent the ever increasing desire for more achievement/things, it is important to fall in love with the process.

In the gym I perform better on a regular basis when I have something to work toward. Summer, some type of competition, upcoming social events etc. Those things are not always there. In fact, most times they are not.

So I don’t have the inherent motivation that comes with that purpose (which I both give to myself, and take away), all the time.

For this reason, I fall in love with process. Not the outcome. Achieving goals is important, but should not be a primary source of happiness. IMHO.

The process is more important than the end results. Especially when the end result is a moving goal post.
