Like I said, I have no problem with yard work if It has some utility (a garden for example) but having a big ass yard just for the sake of flexing on neighbors is pants on head retarded.

You know, boomers were around a lot of lead in the 50s-70s. It was in the fuel, in their toys even in their pencils. As a heavy metal it has the potential to phuck up mental cognition and their lust for "big lawns" for no reason other than "tradition" I feel may stem from heavy metal poisoning.

The zen garden is nice though. That's the extent of a decorative lawn (outside of just throwing down wood chips and gravel) that I'm willing to stand.

But that's the problem with my parents. They didn't allow us to play on the lawn as kids because we'd "tear it up" with our shoes running around.

They had us walk 2 blocks down the street to the park.

He doesnt do this anymore because of his age, but my dad was the kind person that would get on his hands and knees with hedge trimmers to line up the lawn with the driveway (weed eater wasn't "accurate" enough for him).

THAT is a mental illness, and clearly something of the obsessive compulsive variety.

What's the most pathetic is HOA's that have competition and the absolute fukery that goes on with that. It's kind of like Reddit but IRL type cringe fukery.I make my yard look nice so my dogs have someplace pretty to poop in. srs

Well my brother and I grew up when my Dad kicked our asses out there and made us do it, the lawn, weed whacking, picking up all the dog ****. My parents saved a lot of monthly bills on gardeners. And the weed whacker, those things are not for young children. So many funny injuries with those things.

Not much of a yard. My patio alone is like 12 times the size of that.

I'm so picky on lawns that I literally went and fertilized my neighbors yard without asking today. Also refer to anyone that doesn't take care of their lawn as white trash and will yell at them as I drive by if they are out. Gotta establish dominance over lazy poor people.

A big yard is to keep neighbors even further away from you then they otherwise would be.

How much of the yard you upkeep is not as important.

Buddy of mine lives down the street in an HOA. Green lush grass is mandatory and costs $$$ to maintain because Florida. Our yards are 99% sand and some HOA is making it mandatory to water, spray and maintain a non native plant that does not want to grown unless you spend hundreds a month creating a micro climate for it. It's pretty close minded and fuked when you think about it considering no animal wants that. Fruit forests or native landscaping looks just as good and actually provides something besides curb appeal to boomers from up north who have a weird fascination with grass even though no one even knows the species or cares about plants past the fact that its green.

A curious new neighbor in my parents neighborhood ripped all his grass and replaced it with artificial turf. As far is known no one has met him/her but I'm speculating he is a former football player or ran a lawn mowing business as a kid.

A well kept lawn is how you signal to your neighbors that you've bought in to keeping the neighborhood up. It doesn't have to be golf course maintained grass, it just has to signal that someone is applying effort to keep it visually appealing. I love grass, and have spent a great deal of time and effort to get a zoysia lawn established. Some of my neighbors prefer the xeriscaped look, but they put forth the effort to keep it looking nice which comes with quite a bit of maintenance of it's own.

It only takes one person on the block to let it slide and bring everyone down with them. An attractive outdoors space is what separates the wheat from the chaff. Don't be the chaff, boyos.

Yard work can be really therapeutic. It's a great way to decompress. There's no way I would want to cut 1.5 acres of grass with a push mower though.
