There are situations where you're more likely to survive on a motorbike. E.g. Head on collision both going 40mph. In a car you're dead, thats an 80mph impact. On a bike you at least have the chance of ejecting onto and over the cars roof then skidding down the road. With leathers on you might get away with a few broken bones and road rash, but alive.

One thing I learned from EMT's working in an ER is there are two things they'll never own, trampolines and crotch rockets. All of their most grizzley calls have been from either trampolines or crotch rockets.

I'll do dirt bikes/ATVs though, but only in back roads at safe speeds.

as long as you're not doing it at break neck speeds I think its fine....for the most part especially in stop and go traffic. Its actually good then bikes split lanes b/c they relieve decongestion on the road free up space.

but even then, even when you do everything right there's the asholes that'll slightly turn into the center lane to prevent you from passing or straight up open the door then you have chunks of tire tread from blown tires and random animals to dodge. Its just too risky to do at ludacris speeds. Life isn't a video game where if you crash you'll just respawn back at your house of some chit, but there are people certainly living their life that way.

No one, and mean literally no one, is expecting a motorcycle to pass in between them and the car beside them...meaning they will never check to see if a bike is approaching or not...they see an opportunity to squeeze their car in somewhere and it looks like they will fit, they're going.

Just because splitting is legal, doesn't mean it is smart. It is not illegal to juggle chainsaws either...not gonna do it.

Lane splitting is a game changer. Especially when there's an accident on the motorway. Brb ride past the gridlocked traffic, saving literally hours of waiting. Then you can ride right to the front and see what actually went down

Actually we do here, it’s part of the driving test and we’ve had public awareness campaigns.

It’s also really fun to do when cars are snarled up in slo motion

A bike is one thing that's worth the risk involved. But its also a high-skill cap low inhib activity. If you're naturally afraid/insecure/unwilling to push your limits it probably won't be so fun as you'll be too scared to do anything.

It's not even just speed though. A cruiser on countryside backroads make for a damn good time too

I don't think I'd ever get a really fast motorcycle like a ducati or whatever

But I'd totally buy a Yamaha wr250r or some kind of dual sport for both offroading, dirt trails and casual street/road riding. Get a gopro and do motovlogs and have fun, wear all the gear.

fking lol @ riding on the highway with crazy people speeding in SUV's and minivans, you're asking to be killed

I used to have one but riding in a big metro area was too sketchy. If I lived in a very rural place, I would love to have one again.
