Women just don't have a concept of self-preservation. Men train in fighting and/or carry guns and/or knives to defend themselves if the situation arises. What do women do? They just claim how they shouldn't have to worry about being victimized, or rely on other people to be prepared and help them.

Truth is, nobody should have to worry about being victimized, but it's a fact of life. Either prepare yourself for the possibility or let yourself be a victim.

I mean I always viewed it as if your a woman you are pretty much fuked in some areas if you are by yourself.

If your a dude that can move quickly and act like he knows where he’s going, he belongs where he is, and is aware of his surroundings you will most likely be all right.

Women can just attract an extra layer of attention.

I'm with OP on his sentiment (no homo).

I conceal carry a pistol and a pocket knife as a backup (will get a snub nose revolver as an ankle carry eventually), and I hope I never have to use them. However it's not out of "fear" per say, but being prepared and having awareness of what's going on in the world and around me. Some of you guys talk about "never relaxing" yet break OP's balls about being observant and aware of his surroundings. I'm a big dude, but I underestimate no one. I've sparred with people smaller than me in jujitsu, yet I know that if they went full bore, they'd probably turn my limbs into balloon animals. Underestimating people or letting your guard down can be deadly.

Then your place is not that safe, I don't care what the statistics say. I've never been afraid of walking by myself at night since I was ten, because the place I live in is really that safe.

All of us with a functioning brain know that women are weaker than the average man by an amount that is staggering. I've instilled in all the women in my family not to believe these Hollywood movies were a 100 lb female can take on 200 lb guys. I've told them that the little nerd could easily kill them with his hands even if they are in great shape and work out.

That put aside, OP is smart in always having situational awareness, especially as it sounds like he lives in a larger city. The biggest guy in the world if not careful could be jumped and caught off guard with a knife or a gun.

But the other part of the problem with women is that they are the opposite, they're clueless to what is going on around them. Last weekend, I was actually downtown Chicago in the Chinatown area. There was a birthday party that consisted of dinner and going to a karaoke bar afterwards. So at 2:00 a.m. in Chicago, all the girls are just on the sidewalk loudly chatting away, in their skimpy outfits, while me and a few other guys are telling them let's go. They were totally oblivious to bums and other zombies starting to walk their way. If it was just the girls there by themselves, that would have been laughing and giggling until they were surrounded, then not understood why it happened to them.

My whole thing is never to put myself in a situation where I have to defend myself or someone else. But obviously I would if needed. Not being your resident of illinois, I also hate the fact that I can't carry there. I used to go to Chicago all the time, I think in the last year I've been there only twice.

If you are afraid it's your problem. Male or female. srs. There is always an assumption of risk in everything you do. Nothing it absolute so all you can do is try to aim in a direction of less risk and take precautions to reduce that risk.

As far as carrying a weapon, that is a last resort all else fails option. Don't let it become false security and put yourself in a stupid situation. #1 factor is situational awareness. Avoiding situations that could turn badly. Avoiding shady people. From there it's how you react.

When i last looked many years ago, men were far more likely to be a victim of violent crime. I doubt that's changed but when i google i can't find the answer like i could in the past... odd.
