Not a knock on family structure, just a rebutle to the idea that $15/hr forces you to live with your family. I had 1 roomate and lived off of $11/hr for 1 year post college before I got a better job in a costal Florida city. Wasn't that hard and it was in 2018, not 1997.

If you rewrote the title to be 1/3 o men 18-34 are either so addicted to drugs that it cripples their ability to make money and or have a mental illness restricting them from advancement in life, I'd believe that more than millions of people just simply not working from pure choice. I don't believe the gig economy where everyones an uber lyft food delivery drug dealer only fans instagram personality and making $$$ under the radar of typical statistics about the economy. I think alot of people were maturing finicially into the biggest bull market in history followed by the cheapest debt in history. Americans are up to their gills in debt and the vast majority operate with no savings. I would not be suprised if 1/3 of 18-34 see no issue with taking loans out and using that as income for the year, some people are legit retarted and do not posses the ability to plan for tomorrow, let alone retirement.

Also these stats don't go deeper by differentiating between those in college/school of some sort and those who stay with parents for cultural and or medical reasons. Those two instances alone would keep at least 1/4 18-34 perpetually out of work and or their own home.
$15/hr full time is roughly 30k a year.

Avg rent for a 500sqft studio apartment is 1100 in a good city like jacksonville. So theres 13k a year just there. 1.5k for gas, 100 a week for food is 5k a year rounded down, health insurance is 300/mo for dog**** coverage, 3.6k a year. Car payment for beat up pos used car another 250/mo, 3k a year there. Avg car insurance is 2300/yr in florida.

And that 30k you earned still gets taxxed at 12%. So thats really 26k.

You are literally in the negative and thats just paying for mandatory things to survive. Its truly impossible to make it. Even a 40k/yr salary doesnt cut it.

This world is rigged, and its ran by riggers.

I see this so much. My 26 year old former FWB rarely works and mostly smokes weed and plays video games and lives with his parents with no car Hence why he became a former FWB, as I got turned off by his lack of motivation in life.

Ahhh this argument. Add in some filet mignons and cavier for a "modest" dinner 4x/week and look at that you are right!

Heres some ancetdotal evidence for you from this month alone....
My friend just signed a lease in St. Pete FL for a 700sq/ft house in the hood for $700/month. Didn't believe her, so i looked it up, and yeah, multiple chitty listings for under 1k. Bad neighborhood, bad houses, but roof over head and 21st century living for sub 1k/month.

I was 22-23 so I was on my parents health insurance until 26 as virtually every 18-26 year old is. Now that I am above 26 I have my own health insurance through work...its roughly $50/month for full coverage plus dental, vision blah blah blah. You are getting ripped if you pay $300 through an employeer.

In Florida you only need basic car insurance coverage. I pay about $100/month on a vehicle from 2012...so again your number is too high.

1.5k for gas is on the high end unless you commute 45 mins+, but thats a fair number esspecially now.

The food number is legit and this year/next gas is propbably more than 1.5k.

Fair argument, but what people who make 30k/year need to live like they make 30k/year. I did it, wasn't a problem. Was I saving money hand over fist? no. Did I ever skip a meal, no...did the lights even go off, no....did I drive 80 miles for a weekend "get away" and eat out for 7 meals straight....no...and thats why it worked. Live within your means until your means allow a higher living standard. 15/hr should and is entry level, thats what it should be...a 1-2 year salary where you live just above poverty until you ammase enough work ethic, connections, skills to earn a higher salary and move into middle class. All of this goes directly out the window the second you are injured, get cancer or have a kid, so you are right that its rigged if you fall into those categories, but for a 22 year old guy....30k/year is a fine salary for the first year or two post school/early adult life.

Boyos, I'm going to resist the urge to mock this situation and speak some truth:

Men are giving up because there is no reason to drive towards success. A man's desire in life is to start a family. But women these days are rotten to the core. Why marry and produce children with a woman when she'll eventually file for divorce, take the kids, take the house, get child support (which she won't spend on the children), get alimony, etc?

She'll then find herself some deadbeat boyfriend who will move in with her (in the man's former house) and they'll both live for free off of the husbands child support and alimony payments. And then when the kids enter their teen years, the deadbeat boyfriend will probably sexually assault them.... and the father will be powerless to do anything about it because the family court system will prevent him from taking custody of his children.

The West is doomed, the White race is doomed. The babyboomer generation sold out the country when they adopted liberalism.
Everything I post is satire.

Yikes.

I see so many young adults on my street living with their parents. My neighbor's daughter was in her 40s with her husband and kids living with her Mom. Luckily they saved up enough money to move out on their own.

But I also live in an insanely expensive area.

Can you blame young people living at home though? Life is more expensive than ever.

Hell getting out of your parental home when you're young is the anomaly in human history. In many cultures there is no shame in that, the west will probably evolve back to that lifestyle if prices stay high.

I wanted to leave my parents' home as fast as possible as my Dad has a million fans on as he's always hot and they have 3 TVs constantly running. The noise made me stressed out all of the time and it always smells there as they keep the litter boxes inside the house. Now my house is quiet and I rarely have the TV on, and the litter boxes are in the garage.

The point is americans cant afford to live at even 40k a year. And thats 51% of the current workforce making under 20/hr. Keep in mind I rounded everything down and used florida, one of the cheapest states to live in to compare.

"Just get a better paying job" my nibba there IS NO MIDDLE CLASS. Youd be pained to find a better paying job that isnt in an expensive big city. Learn how to code? Congratulations all of the faang companies are in san francisco, now you are living like poverty, but this time 100k/yr and broke instead of 40k.

Theres no winning broh. I quit my firefighting job because my county only pays 39k a year lmao. I went to uni, majored in network engineering, and even my field is having a hiring freeze now. Feel bad for young bros srs.

First of all, I've worked plenty of minimum wage jobs in my lifetime and I supported myself just fine. It was a nice encouragement to escape that poverty pay bracket tbh. Second of all, it's exactly the phucking mindset of "I'd rather sit at home and get good boy bux than earn my money like a man" that I'm talking about.

Overtime, extra shifts, second jobs, passive income, side hustles, gig jobs. There are a million ways to make it happen. I lived in big cities akin to Boston in COL making minimum wage as a phucking retarded 17 year old and I was able to figure it out. Minimum wage jobs aren't something you're supposed to do for a long period of time, they are the first step in a career or a fast job in a new city if you don't have any experience or credentials to rely upon.

Anyone talking about household income should be immediately discredited as not srs (srs). A "household" could be 10 individuals from 3 generations, a single mother with 4 children on welfare, or an adult man making six figures. There is absolutely zero point in even discussing it.

Im not saying it isn't possible, but why would kids want to do all that when they can just live at home? I'm just looking at it objectively from their position

"Just get a better paying job" my nibbathere IS NO MIDDLE CLASS.Youd be pained to find a better paying job that isnt in an expensive big city.

Just a matter of time until an incel jihad happens in the west srs.
Americans absolutly can live off of 40k/year. I'm thinking you and I have different definitions of "living". Im not talking about a 1500sq/ft house in an HOA with two kids and college paid for. I'm talking about a single man in his 20's who is willing to make short term sacrifices for long term gain. Such as not eating out for a year in order to save for a house down payment. Even American lower middle class/slightly above poverty quality of living is still some of if not the best in the world.

Your numbers for Florida were 20-30% inflated...I know because I am a 20 something year old in Florida...I dont need to check national averages and make assumptions...I can go to my checking account and see exactly what the price is for these things.

What even is middle class? Who cares...from a finicial standpoint you should be doing everthing in your power to make money so you can aquire assets so later in life you don't have to work at Mcdonalds at age 70. Middle class was a cake walk in the 70's, but things have changed and along with those things that have changed are our expectations of qaulity of life. More cars, expensive meals blah blah blah. I acknoledge the assest aquiring game is rigged with housing and the stock market...but its still a viable option...just harder for those at 40k/year obviouslly.

Shame about your situation...but those are both good skills, keep a positive attitude and a budget and you'll be fine.

Still think its worth rat racing? Just lmao.

Id rather steal catalytic converters for a living than have a clown world job. Yet here I am
Just watched a naked man holding a pvc pipe as a word run from a storage unit property followed by 3 cops into the street trying to get on the bus to get away. He was tackled and arrested in the middle of the street with 20 cars watching at 8 am (ded srs)....thats better than working?

Reality.

I don't see any proof of this...I think its a talking point to distract from the mental health and addiction crisis that is propbably causing unmotivated young men to lay down and rot.

Because they are not weak ****g0ts and the idea of living at home with their parents instead of going out into the world and making something of themselves is repulsive to them.

Let me put it this way, in Russia, tons of people I know-- even in their late 20s-- will live at home and there's no shame in it. I think that's kind of cool. The thing is, if they aren't losers, they are usually working a pretty prestigious job, saving tons of money to buy a flat of their own, helping their parents out around the house, plan to move out when they get married (which Russians do an average of 5 years younger than Americans I believe), etc. To me, I have no problem with that kind of lifestyle. It's not the coolest way to live, per se, but I don't think someone doing that should be shamed.

I think the both of us know that that does not describe the average millenial or zoomer American who is living at home in their mid-twenties. Sure, there are corner cases, and they are doing just fine (I know some people who live like that), but for the most part they are unemployed NEETs collecting entitlements for some LARP malady or financial hardship contributing nothing to society and behaving like degens in their personal life. Sorry, those kunts need the rope.

I actually agree with what you're saying, I was just trying to explain the mindstate of these kids who do choose to stay with their parents
