I'm not even trying to advance in my career. I'm trying to maximizing my lying in bed/on the couch time not paying a single piece of attention while "working".

I wouldn't even want to be promoted tbh. I make enough and I wouldn't want to have to interact with people more. That was my biggest motivation going into what I do in the first place.

That’s completely fair. Companies need strong individual contributors. More companies need to pay strong ICs on a similar scale to managers that decide to take that career path.

But I still think to advance into that high up individual contributor position that strong social skills are and will be needed. As this person will probably need to work strategically and leverage cross functional resources. Some dude that lacks social skills won’t be able to cut it.
